About this listen

The immortal sorcerers - three legendary figures that toppled the empire of Xixis. Each has lived for over a hundred years, leaving a powerful legacy in their wake.

But their children do not share their renowned immortality, and when the firstborn son of Edrick Theas is killed, sorceress Lydia Hastings is called to investigate the murder. When she discovers a sorcerous trail left by a creature of unfathomable power, she quickly realizes she needs outside help. And while Jonan Kestrian - a spy for a rival military power - might not be Lydia's first choice for an ally, she knows that he has the knowledge and skills that she needs.

While Lydia and Jonan trace the assassin's trail, Taelien undergoes the Trials of Unyielding Steel, a series of tests to ensure his entry into the Paladins of Tae'os. As he trains for his trials, Taelien faces his fiercest rival yet: Velas Jaldin, a former member of Orlyn's Queensguard with the power to manipulate motion at her whim. With skills far beyond those of an ordinary soldier, the former Queensguard might be the killer that Lydia seeks - or the assassin's next victim.

Great story, fabulous performance!

Good second installment in the series. Can get a bit confusing at times with certain characters having multiple names/pseudonyms. The author and performer truly paint a picture and transport you to their world.

Another fantastic book by Andrew Rowe

I love Andrew Rowe’s audio books, the only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because he has written better books. It would be 5 stars compared to many other fantasy books but alas he has set his own pedestal too high for them to all be 5 stars

Generally good, with some inconsistencies and gaps

While a good story, and brilliantly excited, it does lack something in regards to fine detail and there appears to be a few plot holes. I'm a big fan of the auther and found his latter books especially good but this trilogy feels like it needs a little polish. I still really enjoyed it however, and think the author has a devoloped fantastic diminesional characters and deep fantasy world with great potential.

Brilliant story

I have recently started to listen to Andrew Rowe's books and I am very impressed with the characters and the imagery set out. Also big fan of Nick Podehl narrating. Can't wait to hear the next follow-up. Must admit it's up there with my other favourite authors Brent Weeks and Anthony Ryan
