It does, however, like many romance books lately, have sex plonked into the plot at wildly inappropriate times. After a bomb nearly kills them underwater, the couple sleep overnight in cave, tramp through wild jungle, get attacked by a crazy woman, and take shelter from a hurricane in a bath tub, then feel like having sex. Seriously? She had suffered shoulder and back injuries in the bomb and he had a possible concussion but they feel turned on??! All I could think about was how much they both would need a shower! Later on in the book they have sex the day after the h is so badly hurt she gets 14 stitches in her shoulder.
Apart from this annoying instant recovery from injuries, this is a decent book, and a definite improvement on the last one I read in the series. The plotline is interesting with just enough archaeological detail to keep the reader involved. I have to admit the whole blackmail/threat plot and the reasons behind it were a bit weak, and the villain of the book seemed just a little too powerful, (he kidnaps the daughter but h never even considers just going to the police?) but there was enough action in this book to distract me from caring too much about it. I cannot help thinking if the writer concentrated less on trying to fit in the seemingly obligatory graphic sex scenes, and spent more time developing the story line, and filling up a few plot holes, she would be writing some really exciting fiction. As it is, this is still a very good book, you just need to suspend your disbelief a bit. The narration is also excellent, and there is a lovely ending. May I note also, that it’s nice to see a realistic portrayal of motherhood in this book. The daughter is always the priority, and is always included in plans, thoughts and actions, right up to the end of the book.
