يتحدث الكتاب عن قصص الأنبياء الذين ورد ذكرهم في القرآن وبعضاً ممن لم يرد ذكرهم في القرآن صراحة ولم يتعرض ابن كثير في كتابه لقصة نبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم إذ بدأ بقصة آدم عليه السلام وانتهى في كتابه بعيسى عليه السلام وقد سار ابن كثير في كتابه بمنهج يوحي بالثقة ويشعر بالطمأنينة إذ اعتمد فيما ذكر فيه على ما ورد في القرآن الكريم كما خلا ما يستشهد به من حديث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن الموضوع ولم يعتمد إلا فيما ندر على الضعيف من الحديث يضاف إلى ذلك أن الكتاب سلم من الإسرائيليات نهائياً وكيف لا وهو الإمام الحافظ المحدث
