About this listen
"Go into the Red Zone. Go to Street Freaks," his father directs Ashton Collins before the vid feed goes suddenly silent. The Red Zone is the dangerous heart of mega-city Los Angeles; it is a world Ash is forbidden from and one he knows little about. But if he can find Street Freaks, the strangest of aid awaits - human and barely human alike. As Ash is hunted, he must unravel the mystery left behind by his father and discover his role in this new world.

"[Narrator Simon] Vance sinks his teeth into this futuristic, action-punk, dystopian story. His reading is perfectly timed, shifting seamlessly between emotion and narrative, street racing and corporate espionage. Vance's flawless performance keeps listeners riveted by the bulls-eye painted on Ash." (AudioFile)

Different to other works. Action all the way
Worth a listen, narrator Mr Vance makes the story come alive. Not your usual Terry Brooks but I did enjoy it. Younger audiences will love it.

ok but creepy
the book is ok in terms of the story but the way that the female characters are described leaves one very uncomfortable, especially given the age of the pleasure robot.
simon vance does his usual good job of reading brooks' books and the story is ok, if over use of descriptions. each thing gets about 3 descriptions which seem superfluous.
the book really needs (as does all of brooks' work) an editor. if the long rumoured sequel is released, i will not be reading it

Young Adult Book
This story is very predictable from the outset. If it weren't for Simon Vance I would have returned this book, but his excellent performance was enough to help me finish this "OK" tale.
There is nothing new in this story. It has all been done before. And it has been done better.
I really think this book should be marketed as Young Adult/Teen as it lacks the type of depth that is required to retain the attention and interest of a more mature reader.
If you are over the age of 21 I would skip this title.

Unexpectedly bland
This story starts full throttle and adventurous along futuristic city streets. But it just keeps going on in this vein chapter after chapter with nothing really happening towards a plot. So I skipped to the end and wasn’t very surprised to discover an info dump of what transpired in a news report. Sorry I wasted money and time on this, glad I fast forwarded though.
