The Junkers 87 Stuka was an iconic weapon of World War Two and an aircraft name that was, and still is, instantly recognized worldwide. Its roles in Poland and the Battles of France and the Low Countries are almost legendary, but in the UK its import during the Battle of Britain is one that has never been covered in any specific detail.

Here, Andy Saunders takes a critical look at every operation by Ju87s against British targets in 1940 - including those on land and at sea. Each raid is charted, covering all aspects of the attacks including participants, defending RAF fighters and those on the receiving end. A very informative view of the air War from the Luftwaffe and RAF, during the 1940's. The Stuka dive bombing techniques were especially descriptive.

This book starts a little slowly but builds content as it goes. It's also quite bi-partisan and doesn't take sides, just presents Pilot's experiences and published in 2018 presents a very neutral and I suspect very accurate appraisal of the Stuka's abilities.

Living in Dorset I an surrounded reminders of wars, so it is great to learn more about the subject. This book is one of those with great stories and facts.

This book offers information about interesting and mostly unknown (or infested by myths) part of Battle of Britain. The same time, I found it a bit disappointing, as a big part of it is consisted of letters or the copies of reports rather than author's own writing - sometimes it is even far from the "Stukas subject".
I planned to rate it lower but I appreciate that this subject was approached, as well as I found there some interesting information about the first stage of BofB, I knew very little of, before.

This is a detailed account of the Stuka's role in the Battle of Britain. It's impartial, giving both the British and German views and detailing fairly the Stuka's strengths as well as its weaknesses. The writing is a little plodding with too much emphasis on squadron numbers and other details. There is nothing about the design and early development of the Stuka which should have warranted at least a chapter. The conclusion that the Stuka's were tactically withdrawn, rather than defeated is interesting and well argued.

As someone with a reasonable knowledge of the Battle of Britain, this work focused in detail on one aspect and I found it very informative and I learned some new facts - certainly a different viewpoint from the established narrative.
