About this listen

Get a personal chef, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

And then Thierry shows up and Pietro realizes his mistake. Because he knows Thierry. A little too well.

Thierry is the man who told his ex to leave him.

Thierry is the man who punched Pietro and ran.

Thierry...is his ex-boyfriend’s best friend.

But Pietro also knows the man needs a job. An injury destroyed his former career, and Pietro is nothing if not a bleeding heart. Besides, he doesn’t have time to search for a new chef, not with the World Series looming and his team ready to go all the way.

Life gets more complicated, though, when he and Thierry cross a line one night after a lot of wine and several bad jokes. And while hooking up is one thing, Pietro knows the last thing in the world he needs is for his heart to get involved.

Too bad it tends to make decisions without him.

Switch-Hitter is the first book in a fictional MLB series featuring a lonely baseball player with a chip on his shoulder and hope in his heart, a team ready to win no matter what it takes, a grumpy French chef who will defend escargot to the death, and a few bottles of dry red wine leading to the sweetest happily ever after. Each book in the Hit and Run series stands alone, contains no cheating, and has a happily ever after.

Wonderful narration

Story = 3.5 stars rounded up

As a wheelchair user I was eager to read this. It's nice to see for a change. The author was very respectful and accurate in the portrayal. This was a well written book.

I did go back and forth on what to rate this though because on the one hand it is a very slow paced story. Like glaciel and the same topics are rehashed over and over again. I kept waiting for the plot to progress. On the other hand given the characters past history and Thierry working through his life changing injury it was understandable. I would recommend this to anyone that doesn't mind a very slow burn romance with little heat and not really any angst. Just an overall ok story about enemies becoming friends and a very reluctant MC learning to love himself again and learning he deserves love and overcoming his insecurities. I did really enjoy both of the MCs and the overall plot. It just didn't wow me.

Narration = 5 stars

John did a phenomenal job with this one. The accents were believable and the voices suited each of the characters. The distinct voices made knowing who was speaking clearly noticeable. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully and brought the story to life. It was a pleasure to listen to. I'm not always a fan of John's work cause he can sound older than most MCs but this was fabulous work.

Looks like another amazing series from Lindsey!

A start to another great series by EM Lindsey. It's a (former) enemies to lovers tale (they get over the enemies part really quick so it's pretty light), with two men who are just trying to get their lives together. Full of love and passion, I was rooting for these two from the start and really enjoyed their chemistry. It's definitely sports light, not a huge sports read, but just enough to get an alternate reality view into an athlete's life. I listened to the narration by John Solo and thought he did a phenomenal job. Even with the accents, everything was top notch and kept me fully engaged with the story.

A sweet, emotional romance

I wasn't sure I'd like Pietro after reading Gabriel and Ezra's story, but he surprised me in this audio. Yes, he was undoubtedly the famous, somewhat cocky athlete, but Pietro was also a dedicated and hard worker, disastrous cook, and man who didn't always know how to express his feelings. All those little, unexpected facets of his personality were what made Pietro so lovable to me, and it's why I ended up rooting so hard for his and Thierry's romance. I honestly didn't know if either of them could move forward from their messy, tangled up past, but much to my delight they settled into something warm and peaceful and happy together. With so much going on in both Pietro and Thierry's lives, I kinda expected their romance to be a whirlwind affair, but the reality was so much better than that. They drifted together slowly, after relearning how to trust each other and lowering their walls, and the safe space it created for both of them was wonderful to experience. They may not have had that impulsive, lusty drive to rip each other's clothes off all the time, but if anything I felt their desire more in the intentional way they expressed it when they were at home. For a long time I didn't know if either man would be brave enough to put into words what their hearts knew to be true, but after interference from multiple well-intentioned friends (and some not so friendly influences), they did finally make the leap.

Emotional and physical journey for both MC's

A good character story with what both MC's experience in this book. It's an enemies to lovers romance with Thierry having punched Pietro in the face a few months back and no he's turned up to interview for the job of personal chef. A lot has happened for both in the in between - Pietro has been diagnosed with ADHD and is struggling to organise his life while Thierry was shot whilst defending his best friend as his bodyguard leaving his with life changing injuries.
I enjoyed the tension between the two and how they work through it. Each man needs the other with Thierry in need of the job, for the money but also for himself and getting back into work after being left partially paralysed, and Pietro needs help with his food and nutrition, taking control of hi life by accepting help from others. It's a slow burn romance and I think that the physical aspect was written well considering the limitations that Thierry has or feels he has. Both men have pride and stubbornness which leads to some tense moments but overall it's a good story to read/listen to.
John Solo's narration really brings the characters to life, I enjoyed Thierry's husky french accent and Pietro's attitude and brattiness really comes through.

Lonely souls

A story about two souls touch and love deprived who get to know each other again in different circumstances. I was touched by their circumstances.
The story is fine and the narrator good but the pronunciation was sometimes a bit difficult for me, specially Thierry, because his voice was deeper and lower. I was all the time going up and down the volume, something very annoying.

Emotional story, great audio performance.

John Solo has often said he can’t do a French accent but I think he did a good job with Thierry’s voice. Being a US gal, and never having been to France, I can’t tell you that the accent is correct but I can say that I enjoyed his performance of this story. It was easy to distinguish each of the different characters and John remains on of my favorite audiobook performers.

As for the story, I thought that it was great. I have many books by this author in my digital library but this is the first one I’ve read. I think I need to correct that. 😊

It’s not often that listening to an audiobook will bring me to tears but it happened with this one. I really felt for Thierry and the difficulties he has to overcome. Pietro is such a sweet guy and he really wants to help Thierry even though Thierry wasn’t very nice to him at one time.

This is a great start to a new series!

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Home Run

Switch-Hitter is the first book in the Hit and Run series, a contemporary series featuring hot baseball players and their sweet love stories. Except, Pietro’s love story starts off as anything but sweet. The last time Pietro saw Thierry, the man had punched him in the face. Now, things are different. Thierry’s life has completely changed and he finds himself as Pietro’s personal chef. Not unexpectedly, there’s more than dinner that cooks up between the two of them. What once was resentment is now a tender love. The story was so engrossing and completely sucked me in. I was very invested in Pietro’s and Thierry’s happy ever after.

The audiobook was narrated by the fabulous and wonderful John Solo. John is a fantastic narrator who can just whisk me away into the story immediately. I love his voice and how he embodies all the characters. Plus, the audiobook quality is superb.

A Change Of Lifestyle

MM, Hurt/Comfort, Sports, Contemporary, Romance. First book in the series, reads as a stand-alone. Great characters with a not so cute meet story, a lot has changed since their last meeting. A great story which I've really enjoyed, brilliantly narrated by John Solo. Great to have a book whose main characters have disabilities. Guaranteed HEA.

Another enjoyable book

I enjoy E.M. Lindsey books. I especially loved the On the Market series. I love how she writes disabled characters who live their lives as if they are just regular ordinary people – which they are. We, as a society, need to be more accepting. As someone in this book points out – it’s shouldn’t be remarkable when someone who is deaf or blind or an amputee plays baseball – it should be the norm.

Pietro is an adorable character. He’s a professional baseball player with ADHD. As someone on that spectrum, I could totally relate to what he was going through. He’s tried to adapt – as we often do – and some strategies are more effective than others – totally a relatable situation. What he does have is a scummy ex-boyfriend. Blech.

Thierry has had a rough go of it. He was a bodyguard to Pietro’s ex-boyfriend and believed the man cared for him. When Thierry’s shot, however, and paralyzed, he discovers who his really friends are. Recovering in Colorado, he finds himself needing to get a job. Rehab is expensive and he needs to start covering some of his costs and not relying on family. What does a former bodyguard do? Become a chef, of course.

Except the only man who’ll hire him is the man he once punched in the face.

An auspicious beginning if ever there were one.

Yet it works. Thierry works hard to get Pietro to eat something other than raman noodles, and Pietro shows he’s capable of forgiveness. And when his team is in contention, everything sort of falls into place. Of course there has to be a dark moment, a grand gesture, and a lovely epilogue. I happily got all three.

John Solo did a great job of narrating this story. There are more books in the series and I can’t wait.

Emotional story

Switch-Hitter is the first book in the series and for me it was the first book by E.M. Lindsey.
I was absolutely won over by the characters, as Pietro is lovable guy who stands by his friends no matter what. I also liked the getting-to-know-you story, which was so different from how you usually think of it. And by the time they meet again after getting to know each other, a lot has happened and they are both trying to get their lives back on track.
I enjoyed the story and was quickly captivated by the action. The chemistry between Thierry and Pietro was compelling and I liked how they dealt with the current circumstances.
If you like enemies to lovers stories, you should definitely listen to this audiobook.

John Solo did a good job, giving the characters different voices and bringing the story to life. Only Thierry's voice wasn't quite my cup of tea.
