About this listen

In this acclaimed Plato masterpiece, you travel back in time to attend an elaborate high society dinner. At this party, you meet Plato's mentor, Socrates, and the comic poet Aristophanes. During the banquet, each of these men is invited to praise Eros, the god of love and desire. You witness them deliver speeches that embody their wisdom and philosophies on love. You hear Socrates' celebrated account of Diotima, the prophetess who taught him that love is the manifestation of human goodness. Finally, you even hear from the famous Alcibiades.

Symposium is as much of a pause resister today as it was at any point in history. If you are a lover of Greek classics and Plato, Symposium will not disappoint. This story is not only humorous, but it is one of Plato's most powerful works.

Extremely monotonous rendering of a Classic.

Symposium is one of the best loved works in history. It consists of some of the most colourful characters one can imagine. Neither the subject matter (the nature of love) nor the characters are dull. The narrator seems to have perched on one register and unable to breath any life into characters.. Unable to distinguish a conversation from a narration. Very disappointed..
