Summary

Great Teams Need SQUAD Depth

If you have ever been part of a great team, you will know it is exponentially better than being part of a mediocre team. Teams are at the heart of working in complex domains and are essential to the success of agile approaches yet relatively few teams achieve greatness.

Agile and leadership coach Geoff Watts has pulled together his many years of experience with all sorts of teams from software to product development, from medical teams to sports teams and has identified five common characteristics of great teams:

Self-Improvement
Quality
Unity
Audacity
Delivery

These characteristics are not binary, but can be developed through conscious and deliberate action and practice with many milestones along the way towards team mastery.

Absolutely superb

This is the third book - Scrum Mastery, Product Mastery and Team Mastery and one of the few books that I know that tackle the team side of Agile teams. All the books are worth their weight in gold for any Agile person

Change starts from within

Change starts at micro level, from within. Rather than change or revolution should be an evolution.

We seem to suffer from god complex in organisations expecting that a single individual (generally external and or decouple from delivery team) is the answer to all our worries.

I highly recommend this book and audio to anyone, even if you think you do perform solo I'd challenge that you are in fact part of a team if not many. Geoff illustrates with real life examples how can we take control of our own destiny, delivering sustainable happy products.

The book is a well rounded trilogy end, if you haven't yet got hold of Scrum Mastery and Product Mastery please do also check them out.

book is great content wise, but the audio is awful

loved the book, I really like the way the author uses story telling to convey principles.

but the audio sounds like something from the 1960s crackles pops background hum and volume level changes between chapters. Its so bad it really detracts from what is a great book.
