About this listen

The astonishing, beautiful new story for all readers of 10 and over from the bestselling and Costa-shortlisted author of TIME TRAVELLING WITH A HAMSTER.

There are stories about people who want to live forever.

This is not one of those stories.

This is a story about someone who wants to stop…

Alfie Monk is like any other nearly teenage boy – except he’s 1,000 years old and can remember the last Viking invasion of England.

Obviously no one believes him.

So when everything Alfie knows and loves is destroyed in a fire, and the modern world comes crashing in, Alfie embarks on a mission to find friendship, acceptance, and a different way to live…

… which means finding a way to make sure he will eventually die.

Brilliant

I was worried, after Time Traveling With a Hamster, that Ross Welford would be a one trick pony. I needn't have been worried. This story is wonderful.

It's a little slow to get going, I'd say, but the second half is magnificent.

Thanks Ross!

The one thousand year old boy

I think that this book is the best book ever for kids who are between 4 to 19 and are good at listening to get entertained for a while they go some where to do shopping when there kids do not want to come with them or doing any thing with them or when it is raining

History for teens

Very entertaining read. Educational but not didacic. The story is good if somewhat expected, and the delivery is spot on.

ROXY NEEDS A SEQUEL

I love this story so much! The narrators bring the already vibrant characters to life and Ross Welford didn’t skimp on any of the characters. Honestly would 100% recommend, the story is definitely novel but it was a nice change from what you usually get. Most importantly I loved the Roxy Minto. She definitely was a highlight for me and I really wish there was a sequel *hint hint* that delved deeper into her character! Overall great book go listen to it!
