About this listen

"The Adventure of the Speckled Band" is the 8th of 12 stories collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It was originally published in Strand Magazine in 1892. Doyle thought that this was his best Holmes story. In fact, he thought so much of it that he wrote and produced a play based on the story. The play, originally called "The Stonor Case," differed from the story in several details but was essentially the same.©1892 public domain (P)1981 Jimcin Recordings Detective Mystery Traditional Detectives Fiction Classics Sherlock Holmes Adventure

Voice actors Walter Zimmerman, Walter Covell, and Cindy Hardin Killavey give energetic performances in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band” from the collection The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The Scottish writer believed this to be his finest detective Holmes story. Heiress Helen Stoner engages Sherlock to investigate her twin sister’s strange and untimely death; she believes gypsies are responsible. The siblings have been living with their stepfather, Dr. Roylott, who once beat a servant to death while in India. Through the powers of deduction, the brilliant detective saves Helen’s life, while untangling the mystery.
