Critic reviews

Crisp common sense and beautifully written. Ros is a brilliant communicator and is able to make even the gnarliest subjects crystal clear. (Lorraine Kelly, ITV Presenter)
The shining light that guides us to understanding what on earth is going on in our complicated world! Ros Atkins has that rare quality of appealing to all generations - even teens who don't watch TV News find his explainers on their phones and follow his guidance to the thorny topics of the day. Now they can learn to do that for themselves. The book every parent wants to slide in their teens' direction to equip them for real life. (Sarah Brown, founder and president of Theirworld charity)
A brilliant guide to communication and explanation. This book will make your arguments stand out in the tsunami of information in our world. It's for all those who want their audiences to listen and understand when they write an essay, a presentation or even send a simple email. (Jeremy Bowen, BBC News)

To the point, succinct, game-changer!

Easy listening and some very good better communication tips. Well explained good for essay writing and managing speeches. A good aid for how to assimilate vast amounts of information quickly with practical examples from the author’s real life experiences as a journalist. This book has enhanced my communication skills and predicting questions of my content was a massive game-changer.

Excellent

This could be on of my favourite self-improvement books of all time. Well worth listening too. I have noticed or experienced quite a few of the observations mentioned in the book. So, it was interesting to hear about them more completely in a way that I had not understood.

That there are clear steps to take towards better explanation

I need to listen again because there is a lot of very useful information. But this book gives me hope that I can explain myself better.

Excellent book, needs a PDF handout

This is an excellent book on the principles of effective explanation. Listening to Rod Atkins' familiar voice makes it come alive. The only problem is that it needs a PDF handout summarizing the main points. It's hard to remember his ten questions and seven principles, and note-taking isn't always easy when listening to audiobooks. I'm surprised a PDF isn't included; many non-fiction books come with them if they provide actionable information.
