About this listen

Left unfinished at the time of his death, The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin has endured as one of the most well-known and influential autobiographies ever written. From his early years in Boston and Philadelphia to the publication of his Poor Richard's Almanac to the American Revolution and beyond, Franklin's autobiography is a fascinating, personal exploration into the life of America's most interesting founding father.

I will listen to this over and over again. It’s amazing to see individuals who go through life learning and doing what they have learned.

So many lessons

Very intriguing to hear of this remarkable man’s life in his own words, and not the account of a modern day historian. This authenticity makes you feel as though you have travelled back in time, and the incredible narration by Qarie Marshall compliments this wonderfully.

There really are a few gems in this book that very much still hold true to this day. Franklin’s approach to conversing with strangers, and his views on religion stand out to me in particular. If modern day society could adapt and implement such tenets today, then I have good reason to believe the world would truly be a far better place as a whole.

Whilst deeply interesting and informative, the book is, at times, a bit boring and/or hard to follow. This is absolutely to be expected due to differences in language, and the period in which such events occurred, but it does - unfortunately - hinder the listening/reading experience ever so slightly.

That aside, I still thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, and would have no trouble recommending it to pretty much anyone.

Would give 4.5/5 if possible

Diligence of a great mind. Humility of B Franklin and ideas still relevant today.

The truth in the words.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin himself, I think I paid too much for my whistle. This was a man with a remarkable life. We see how he goes from an ordinary boy into a legend but in his telling the tale of that life I find I’m both over and underwhelmed. I just feel so much of his life has been left unsaid. His life in the sciences just like his role in the revolution is mentioned as an afterthought was one of the main things I wanted to learn about. This was good reading but in the end I am left wanting.

Quite insightful and engaging in the beginning where his message was clear and narrative flowed smoothly. However towards the end of the book I found my self becoming bored and eager to finish it. Despite this, I appreciated the inclusion some profound sayings towards the end, which provided a satisfying conclusion to the book.

The knowledge Benjamin is putting on the table is amazing. if people would have a mindset like his then greater things in world would be.

A must read
