Another coast-to-coast challenge for the Dickens Detective Agency.

When Bruno Caravaggio confesses to a murder he didn’t commit, Damien returns to Atlantic City to find the killer and clear his friend’s name. His task is complicated by Bruno’s desire to protect his mother and her equally strong instinct to defend her son.

While Damien is away, Millie agrees to look into the claim of an eccentric Carmel-by-the-Sea resident that her children are trying to poison her. Her investigation leads her to Rancho Luna Azul, which sells its meat at several farmers markets in the area.

As she explores the connection between Rancho Luna Azul and the poisoning claim of her client, Millie becomes enmeshed in the FBI’s probe of a drug distribution ring operating out of the same premises. Risking capture - and possible death - at the hands of the drug ring, Millie bluffs her way inside and collects the evidence the FBI needs to complete its case.

This was another really entertaining listen - this time with drug and human trafficking and a conclusion to previous books. With each book the characters become more developed and grow as part of their journey. I am also spending time on google maps to understand more about the American continent with the different locations - love a book where I learn.

I also love the retro feel and it just makes me think how far we have come.

This is my 2nd experience of the Dickens mysteries great books these are too. This one starts with Bruno confessing to murder he didn't do so Gus his longtime lawyer friend ask for help it's not Bruno's style so who did he kill? and why would he? Damien Dickens has agreed to look into this and packs his bag and kisses Millie goodbye and Millie just getting over their last caper where she almost got killed has taken the long road to recovery, but has taken on a case of a woman who thinks her family is poisoning her, was she just humouring her? While Damien is on his case Millie has her son's wife and child staying with them in a converted garage and her son who just can't help himself by always getting into trouble, and trouble he is in too! goes missing. This couple do have a knack of weaving the clues around, and it's s story that is not far fetched and its time-frame is early 1980's so no mobile phones and computers just about to be talked about but laptops definitely a no go not even thought about. Sadly this one has a very sorry ending so have tissues at the ready enough said, but if you can get hold of any Phyllis Entis stories well worth a read and Tom Lennon does a fantastic job on the narration.

And she's done it again! The Blue Moon Caper, book 5 in the Damien Dickens Mysteries, is another fabulous story. First of all I love the time frame, the early 1980s, it doesn't seem as if it was so long ago but we'd never heard of mobile phones and certainly didn't have computers at home; even my school didn't have any. Damien and Millie are an engaging and endearing couple and I must salute Ms Entis for creating a husband and wife team who are genuinely equal partners. Listening to Millie's kick-ass attitude, it's clear she's a woman ahead of her time and I love her. The duo are working their own, separate cases and they are intriguing and clever. No spoilers here but have a hanky ready - I didn't and was forced to wipe my nose on my sleeve at first and then had to pick up one of the dogs and wipe my nose on him, (we were in the park!). I can only hope there will be more stories from Damien and Millie, as I'm missing them already. Tom Lennon turns in another excellent performance, adding an extra level of enjoyment to what is already a hugely pleasurable and captivating book. Highly recommended all round.

This is the 5th in the series about Millie, Dick, the Dickens Agency, and some of their friends and family, and I don't think it would work that well as a stand alone- I would recommend reading the whole series as it is good and builds the main characters and their lives to bring context and shading to this book, but at least the previous one in the series before this, as this story really carries on.
This was a very good tale. The era of the early 1980s is depicted very well, The strain in the relationships and the challenges of troublesome family members across more than one family and on different sides of the states. There are some unexpected turns in this story and some emotional moments that pull at the heartstrings. I think this is one of the best of the whole series.
This has been a gem of a series, with good storytelling and very good narration. I hope there will be further books out soon.

A great mystery, I cried and laughed.

Loved the narration of Tom Lennon, perfect.
