About this listen

A random murder in a public park. An artist wracked by fantastical and haunting dreams. A police inspector confronting the depraved rites of a voodoo cult. Intrepid sailors pitted against a diabolical monstrosity risen from the bottom of the sea. And one man, doomed to understand that such things foretell madness and the end of mankind.

The acting team has done a great job. It was such a pleasure to listen this show. I am thrilled, and going to look for other masterpieces of these wonderful fellows.

Great introduction for new listeners

I loved it, the performances from the actors were phenomenal. H.P Lovecraft's works are hard to read at times, grammatically not to mention the history of his prejudices. Some looking for Thrills, Horror and suspense will love this adaptation

The Stars Are (Almost) Right

The first thing to note is that the HP Lovecraft Historical Society's rendition of this classic tale is a Dramatisation, and not a simple rendition of the text. The second thing to note is that it's brilliantly done , with great attention to detail and a talented cast. The part of Johansen being particularly effective.

The HPHLS as the Dark Adventure Radio Theatre have produced a number of audio dramatisations of HPL's stories, all of which are superb and happily now available on audible.co.uk as well as audible.com.

Who can doubt that in these times that the stars are fast coming right ant these tales will allow you to know your enemy? Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.

Good dramatization

One good dramatization.
Some non-native English speakers might struggle to understand the location and situation in the story the first time they are listening.
While the dramatization is not too long you will likely replay it more often than not and thus you will understand more each time.
Perfect for an hour commute.

Beautifully creepy

I know the base story very well. This adaptation is wonderful. Great presentation and performances, and perfectly encapsulates the creeping horror of the original. A great listen!

Incredible

A short story but an amazing one. The performance of all the actors who took part was fantastic especially the use of accents.
