About this listen
This set includes all three books in AC Cobble's Cartographer Series. A pair of unlikely investigators walk a dangerous path into the past, uncovering secrets best left alone in this dark, fantasy thriller.
The fate of empire is to crumble from within.
A heinous murder in a small village reveals a terrible truth. Sorcery, once thought dead in Enhover, is not. Evidence of an occult ritual and human sacrifice proves that dark power has been called upon again. Twisting threads of clues lead across the known world to the end of a vast empire, and then, the trail returns home.
Duke Oliver Wellesley, son of the king, cartographer, and adventurer, has better things to do than investigate a murder in a sleepy fishing hamlet. For Crown and Company, though, he goes where he’s told. As the investigation leads to deeper and darker places, he’ll be forced to confront the horrific spectres rising from the shadows of his past. When faced with the truth, will he sacrifice what is necessary to survive?
Samantha serves a Church that claims to no longer need her skills. She’s apprenticed to a priest-assassin that no one knows. Driven by a mad prophecy, her mentor has prepared her for a battle with ultimate darkness, except, sorcery is dead. When all is at stake, can she call upon an arcane craft the rest of the world has forgotten?
The fate of empire is to crumble from within. Do not ask when, ask who.

The Cartographer
I really enjoyed this book, it had enough twists and turns to make me listen without having to pause in my work to rest my ears. I thought the quantity of characters was just right, too many and a story can become exhausting keeping track of who’s who.
There was a good ‘balance’ of lilt and sway, not too over powering amount of ridiculously silly characters or less believable ones. There were a couple of chapters that were over complicated, a bit like two balls of wool rolling under the table but the I think perhaps the writer had either was on a roll with busy thoughts ahead of time or the chapters had been set aside for a day too long. The more one writes the better one becomes a writer.
I have already recommended this to a couple of folk that I know will really like it. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next and I will follow this writer.
Lastly, Simon Vance is a wonderful narrator and if as a writer you have listened to your own story as an audio book please keep him on your payroll.

a great listen
The story keeps you gripped until the end, good plot twists and a great adventure tale. I love the thought of the cloud ships. I would definitely recommend this book if you want to get swept up in an adventure with a great narrator, very easy to listen to.

Good long story
Plenty of character development time. It isn’t the most dynamic story line yet it is sufficient to keep you engaged. A few nice plot twists add to the depth and while it does meander a little at times it kept my interest throughout. Well worth the purchase as a box set.

Really enjoyable!
I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and have also recommended it to friends! It was easy to get into, but not so easy that the twists and turns were obvious.
I finished this far too quickly though, because I listened to it whenever I could *lol*

An immersive read.
The world in which this series is set is instantly believable and cleverly thought out allowing you dive in. The characters have humour and depth which allows the intriguing plot to to be carried by them. I found these book great escapism, an excellent adventure that I enjoyed all the way through. A cracking read.
