About this listen
Join investigative journalist and bestselling author Lee Strobel as he embarks on his life-changing quest to solve the riddle of grace. Along the way, you'll find the undeniable evidence of grace in the true stories of racists, addicts, and even murderers who have found new hope and purpose--all through the redemptive power of God's amazing grace.
In The Case for Grace, Lee offers an accessible explanation of the theology of God's grace, shown through the incredible, dramatic, can't-put-it-down stories of people whose lives were changed by the gift of grace--true accounts of people whose transformation and renewal are so radical that they seem to be best explained as the work of a gracious God.
Lee draws upon his own journey from atheism to Christianity to explore the depth and breadth of God's redeeming love for spiritually wayward people, traveling thousands of miles to capture the inspiring stories of everyday people whose values have been radically changed and who have discovered the "how" and "why" behind God's amazing grace.
Each story that Strobel shares in The Case for Grace contributes a piece to the puzzle of grace, showing us:
- How grace goes beyond forgiveness to acceptance and even adoption by God
- How it restores hope when none is left; how it extends to the most heinous circumstances
- How it allows us to forgive those who caused our most intimate wounds--and even to forgive ourselves
Through it all, you will be encouraged as you see how God's grace can revolutionize your life--starting today.

SPOILER ALERT: I discuss 3 of the personal stories below.
One story is about a woman who was roaming the streets from the age of 3, enduring horrific types of abuse. We trace her life up until the time she was taken in by a family, when the woman was shocked to find that they didn't expect her to do housework, that indeed their love was freely given. Another story sees a man as an addict in the midst of homelessness. We hear his story of coming to Christ and the profound things he did as a direct result. There is an assortment of other stories too. The main idea that Strobel drives with, is the idea that God's love is freely given. It's grace. Once we accept this gift, amazing things can happen.
As mentioned, this isn't Strobel doing apologetics, that thing he is widely known for. And that's fine, I was aware of that going in. I was on the lookout for personal testimonies (occasionally I listen to them, perhaps on YouTube) and this book is just that. It is a series of personal stories by individuals who found Christ. There are also stories of people who were already Christian but committed some error, eventually re-discovering the power of forgiveness, including forgiveness from the person they wronged. We also have Strobel movingly recount issues with his own father.
It's narrated very well by the author. A minor criticism is that occasionally it's not entirely clear who is doing the talking. This is unproblematic in the text version, of course, where inverted commas clarify such things. But that's only a minor issue and did not ruin the experience.
All in all, a healthy 4 out of 5. I'm glad to have listened to these amazing personal stories. God is good.
