There’s a literary niche for all tastes including those who think that either Agatha Christie wasn’t funny enough or that PG Wodehouse didn’t feature anywhere near as many baffling murders as he could have. The Case of the Canterfell Codicil is a classic, cozy, locked-room mystery written in the style of an homage to PG Wodehouse. The result, for those familiar with Wodehouse or Jerome K Jerome and Agatha Christie or Dorothy L Sayers, is either an inexcusable offence to several beloved canons, or a hilarious, fast-paced, manor house murder mystery.
In The Case of the Canterfell Codicil, Wodehousian gadabout and clubman Anty Boisjoly takes on his first case when his old Oxford chum and coxswain is facing the gallows, accused of the murder of his wealthy uncle. Not one but two locked-room mysteries later, Boisjoly’s pitting his wits and witticisms against a subversive butler, a senile footman, a single-minded detective inspector, an irascible goat, and the eccentric conventions of the pastoral Sussex countryside to untangle a multilayered mystery of secret bequests, ancient writs, love triangles, revenge, and a teasing twist in the final paragraph.

fantastic
Great story, great humour, if you don't listen carefully you will miss a lot of the dry humour. narrator is the final part of making this a great listening experience

Very amusing and entertaining.
I confess to never having heard of the author.....however this sounded right up my street, so I gave it a listen . So pleased that I did , as I thoroughly enjoyed every word . It takes quite a lot to amuse me these days ( grumpy old man ) but I found myself chuckling away out loud !
Good plot , wonderful characters and cleverly written and narrated. I shall read the rest in the series.

Good fun
Entertaining story with lots of Wodehouse-style humour. Very enjoyable. Unfortunately the narrator just… read the book. There was so much missed opportunity for enhancing the humour with voice characterisation and timing, but most of the characters had the same voice and some of the humour fell flat.

Fun
Light-hearted, old fashioned locked-room mystery. British listeners will be occasionally jolted out of the story by the Americanisms spoken by the British characters, but it doesn’t spoil it.

Hilarious.
Hilarious, smooth and brimming with Wodehousian characters, "The Case of the Canterfell Codicil" is a fantastic nod to both British comic fiction and the Golden Age country house murder mystery. I love both these genres and enjoyed the book immensely.

Fun and clever and gentle
I love PG Wodehouse and Agatha Christie and the author really has captured the spirit of both in a refreshing an inventive way Made for an enjoyable and easy listen, while still being clever. Nicely done. And well read.

Much better than I expected
The Wodehouse comparison nearly put me off, as I'm not a fan of period crime fiction that is not contemporary (either too many howlers or a desperate need to constantly remind the reader what year it is) but this was well done in that respect, and the humour more reminiscent of Michael Innes at his most quirky than Wodehouse. I was expecting 5 hours of gentle amusement, like having Radio 4 Xtra on in the background but ended up quite hooked on the plot as well as the characters. Very good value for a free book, and I've added the rest of the series to my library.
