About this listen
When Detective Clayton Tyler is tasked with reviewing the formidable archives of unsolved homicides in his police department’s vaults, he settles on one particular cold case from the 1980s: the Chester Creek Murders.
Three young women were brutally murdered - their bodies dumped in Chester Creek, Delaware County - by a serial killer who has confounded a slew of detectives and evaded capture for over 38 years. With no new leads or information at his disposal, the detective contacts Venator for help, a company that uses cutting-edge investigative genetic genealogy to profile perpetrators solely from DNA evidence.
Taking on the case, Madison Scott-Barnhart and her small team at Venator must use their forensic genealogical expertise to attempt finally to bring the serial killer to justice. Madison, meanwhile, has to weigh professional and personal issues carefully, including the looming five-year anniversary of her husband’s disappearance.

Intriguing storyline
I've read most of the Moreton Farrier books and thoroughly enjoyed them. Now trying Audible for the first time. The Chester Creek mystery is very plausible and well constructed and I like the way the two time lines are entwined. It was interesting to learn the logical way such an investigation would proceed, although on occasions there was a little too much detail given; such as, reading out an entire web address, or on numerous occasions, so and so opened up a new web browser......We know that's how internet searches are done, it doesn't need stating every time. But those are minor criticisms. Basically, it's a good book, well researched and with a well thought out plot.
I have dropped a star for the performance because I did not warm to the narrator, her voice was 'scratchy' and rather high pitched and her attempts to alter her voice to suit different characters, did not really work, especially for the male characters. I do have a personal preference for an British, 'BBC' accent as it is much gentler on the ear and any number of British actors would have done a better reading in my view. But that is personal preference.

Really compelling for anyone interested in family history and using dna matches for tracing ancestors.

Another fantastic series from Nathan Dylan Goodwin
I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous series about a forensic genealogist and so I was excited to find this book. I wasn’t disappointed it has the same blend of interesting characters, historical flashbacks and painstaking, detailed procedure. Beautifully narrated. I can’t wait for book 2!

Educational and entertaining
As the first of this series it was good to get to know the main characters. The story was intriguing and showed Nathan’s extensive knowledge of genealogy. Always something new to learn while being carried along with the intertwined stories. Looking forward to the next in the series. 3 * for performance only because I find the narrator’s accent quite wearing. I tend to avoid American narration for this reason. But this author is worth the pain.
