About this listen

Simmie Johnson was born the son of a slave. He was also a genius. After earning a PhD in physics from Tuskegee Institute, he wrote a paper outlining a theory for time travel, including plans for a time machine - called a chronocar - which was published in a scientific journal in the early 1900s. Since the technology required to build the chronocar did not yet exist, the paper and its brilliant writer faded into obscurity.

A century later, Tony Carpenter, a young Illinois Tech student, discovers the journal article and decides to build a chronocar, so he can travel back to 1919 to meet the black scientist he hopes to emulate. Unfortunately, time is not on his side.

Dr. Johnson is living in Chicago’s Black Belt with his beautiful daughter, and Tony arrives just in time for the bloodiest race riot in the city’s history.

Can Tony use the chronocar to save his new friends, or will his attempt forever alter the future he hopes to return to?

Good plot

This book has a good plot and a clever storyline that is easy to follow. I love the idea of time travel despite the many paradoxes that it could create, some of which are detailed in this book. I don't really enjoy reading about race wars and the racial intolerance of the early 1900's but it plays an important part of the story so I can live with that.

Sadly I really didn't like the narrator. While he has a pleasant enough voice he...keeps leaving weird pauses in mid... sentence...for no apparent reason which gets...quite annoying quickly. He also twice pronounces debris as "duh-briss" instead of "day-bree" and performs probably the worst Irish accents ever.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Jim at Wordwooze Publishing and am voluntarily submitting an honest and unbiased review.

It’s time travel and it’s awesome!

I was so excited to read this book When I bought it and when I started reading it it seemed like the book produced time travel as well because before I knew it it was over. This book is so good I highly recommend it if you love time travel you’re going to love this but he literally drops in on his Grandpa and his aunt kind of sort of takes a liking to him. Steve Ballinger has a knack for drawing you in and not letting go until the story is over. I love his books and cannot get enough of them. I highly recommend this one. I have yet to get any book by Steve Allender less than five stars and this one is no exception. The narrator did a great job and only added to the greatness of the book. Do you self a favor and get chronic or a time travel story not to mention there’s a few laughs in there as well I love Steve Ballinger books.
