Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

We still have time to change the world. From Greta Thunberg, the world's leading climate activist, comes the essential handbook for making it happen.

You might think it's an impossible task: secure a safe future for life on Earth, at a scale and speed never seen, against all the odds. There is hope - but only if we listen to the science before it's too late.

In The Climate Book, Greta Thunberg has gathered the wisdom of over one hundred experts - geophysicists, oceanographers and meteorologists; engineers, economists and mathematicians; historians, philosophers and indigenous leaders - to equip us all with the knowledge we need to combat climate disaster. Alongside them, she shares her own stories of demonstrating and uncovering greenwashing around the world, revealing how much we have been kept in the dark. This is one of our biggest challenges, she shows, but also our greatest source of hope. Once we are given the full picture, how can we not act? And if a schoolchild's strike could ignite a global protest, what could we do collectively if we tried?

We are alive at the most decisive time in the history of humanity. Together, we can do the seemingly impossible. But it has to be us, and it has to be now.

Excellent book!

A lot of detail, still very accessible. Unlikely to be read by the people who really need to read it.

A great listen but not great news.

If you only listen or read one book this year make it this one.
It will educate and change your opinions at the same time.

If you think Greta knows nothing…

… you better listen to this. This is not a children’s story but a compliation of the state of climate science.

‘this is what happens when you don’t recycle your pizza boxes’

EN: In a few words, a collection of summaries from more than 100 experts and scientists on climate change. Dealing with the reality we live in is a difficult task in the era of meta verse, and this reading/listening will probably raise from time to time the level of your anxiety. Having a good visual memory and being used to read this sort of books, I found it difficult to memorise the amount of scientific data presented and found myself listening on repeat nearly half of the chapters. There are lots of repetitions, but this is somehow expected since we have a huge number of essays coming from people who probably worked together on various research projects. I’ve never been a fan of Thunberg or any other activist as not all the ideas are true and sometimes their reasoning is contradictory.

Important Book, Impressive Driving Force

The ideas in this book address the future of our planet - so rather important. They are wide ranging and require to be considered holistically. Greta Thunberg is an honest and impressive driving force behind the putting together of this large but digestible compilation of essays. I hope people listen, or read, with a fair and critical mind.
My only criticism of the audiobook is that one of the readers sounds like a bored nanny. An unfortunate choice when some of the people who need to be brought on board are prone to dismiss ecological or socialist views as nanny state interference.

The End is Nigh

I suspect that only those who are already worried about climate change are going to read this book. If you have been reading up on the subject then some of this will be familiar, some of which will be interesting and some will give you serious pause for thought.

The insidious ways of the status quo merchants is touched upon, and some of the work already undertaken is explained.

The messages are: Use what knowledge you gain from reading about climate change to gently challenge everyone at every opportunity.

2050 is not the start line, it is not the finish line. We need to start now and we need to go fast and hard. if someone tells you it is too expensive, tell them that the Pollutocrats and Oiligarcs will be forced to pay.

I will reread this sometime soon, it is that packed with stuff I need to know.
