About this listen

The first Sebastian Foxley medieval mystery by Toni Mount.

The narrow, stinking streets of medieval London can sometimes be a dark place. Burglary, arson, kidnapping, and murder are everyday events. The streets even echo with rumors of the mysterious art of alchemy being used to make gold for the king.

Join Seb, a talented but crippled artist, as he is drawn into a web of lies to save his handsome brother from the hangman's rope. Will he find an inner strength in these, the darkest of times, or will events outside his control overwhelm him?

Only one thing is certain - if Seb can't save his brother, nobody can.

this was a promising story but completely spoiled by the abysmal narration, this was the worst narration I've heard on audible.

awful narration

This was a good story but the narration was dreadful. So many mispronunciations - not acceptable. This should be rerecorded by someone who has a better grasp of the English language as this recording does no favors to the author.

Good story but Dreadful Narration

The characters were interesting, a dab of history and intrigue. Hard not to grow to love Seb by the end. The narration was hit and miss, he clearly was trying and by the end I was used to it, but ultimately there were a lot of mispronunciations which did occasionally detract from the story. Due to this it is difficult to recommend purchasing but if you can get past it, then enjoy!

I found the story interesting. On the whole believable although there was one part that I found to be a bit far fetched. There was good characterisation. The narration was fine although at times seemed rushed (the narrator appeared to be hurrying to get to the end of a sentence before he ran out of breath, and failing) resulting in pauses and breaths taken in the wrong places. I did however enjoy this book and would listen to more from this author.

A Good Listen

The vocabulary in the book is too difficult for the young reader who mispronounces many common words used in historical novels. This should have been been picked up by the editor but they were obviously as out of their depth as the narrator. In the end it became so ridiculous that I laughed out loud losing the theme of the plot. Probably my favourite was “I felt rechd” for “I felt wretched” but there were many others.

Appallingly read and edited

Good book once i read it instead. Narrator was a bit of a limp lettuce.

Read the book instead, narrator was off putting

I found this a very involving story, although as a disabled person myself, I did find the way his disability was swiftly discarded to be somewhat problematic. However in other ways Seb was a really refreshing character - I liked the way Toni Mount emphasised that he was skilled and not a beggar, and I liked his relationship with Jude. I agree that the narrator did mispronounce some words, but I liked his narration, particularly the way he voiced female characters such as Dame Ellen. I will definitely carry on with Seb's adventures.

Vivid and full of life

The narration is so appalling I'm struggling to continue. A six year old could do better.
