Summary

For the first time ever all three much-loved series featuring the legendary creations Uncle Mort and Carter Brandon are brought together in one collection. As the pair tour Britain, Uncle Mort's recollections make for some hilarious moments. Uncle Mort and his Yorkshire based family first appeared in Tinniswood's novel A Touch of Daniel which earned them a run of four series of I Didn't Know You Cared on BBC TV from 1975-1979.

In Uncle Mort's North Country, having been granted a week's holiday, Carter Brandon, with his uncle Mort for company, takes a series of day trips around the north. From day one the week is quite eventful, from a burning barn and a death in a pub where they stop for a drink, to a trip to the seaside where events are equally interesting and amusing.

In Uncle Mort's South Country, these famous sons of the north find a fruitful new patch of Tinniswood country in which to air their views. Soho and Hampton Court, southern hotels and southern pubs, southern beer and southern food, that caustic one-nation philosopher, Uncle Mort, has to stomach them all.

In the Celtic Fringe the adventures continue west of the English border. Carter Brandon and his Uncle continue their epic journey through Wales, in his Beetle. They sample an eclectic mix of Welsh hospitality, from spending a night in a very eccentric hotel, spending time with famed sportsman Icky Williams and lodging with a sex mad reverend. Uncle Mort has strange visions and the eccentric trip takes an unusual turn when they look up Mort's old flame.

Do Judge a Book by its Cover..& lazy writing sadly

Yet again a moronic graphic designer doesn't bother to listen to the book they are 'creating' an illustration for the 'COVER' for. IT'S A BLOOD RED BEETLE - you only have to listen to it for 3 minutes before those very words are used! I can't believe you get paid for this - or that your manager is at least as lazy as the 'graphic designer' .. you keep doing it - when are you going learn that attention to detail in everything, is, well, everything. Perhaps the Author might also take note - his main character express in part 2 Chapter "Hitchhiker" that "I like the way the Welsh appeal for LBW" & Yet in the Celtic fringe part episode "Seeing Things" he not only expresses surprise that the Welsh play cricket at all, but asks how they appeal for lbw! IT'S JUST NAFF & LAZY - IF YOU CHARGE A PREMIUM PRICE FOR YOUR SERVICE THEN AT LEAST PROVIDE A PREMIUM SERVICE. The Uncle Mort stories, have a humour & are a bittersweet taste of times long past - a uniquely & quintessential Northern Taste - why mess them up with lazy writing & garbage artwork? Bottom line is if you don't want subscribers leaving then up your game - just because you have a virtual monopoly over the audio book market doesn't mean you can palm off half baked padding & shoddily put together products. A gem of BBC radio classic comedy!

Peter Tinniswood's Uncle Mort brilliantly brought to life by Stephen Thorne as the congenitally miserable elderly northern philosopher and wit. A stellar cast ably support the various adventures of our hero and his long suffering nephew Carter who despite being played by different actors compliments Mort perfectly. Don't miss the episode where they visit Dornford Scargill played by Jim Broadbent the medallin wearing dedicated follower of fashion brother of miners leader Arthur Scargill it's just a joy! In fact don't miss any of this superb audiobook

Perfect performance, but odd choice of picture...

The picture shows a Blue Beetle, when the story clearly a describes Blood Red Beetle...!! 🤔

We've only just started

Discovered Uncle Mort via Radio 4 drama on demand.
1st episode being Carter and Uncle Morts South journey, Uncle Mort and his dialogue about how beer/ale should taste in this episode got me hooked, blinkin hilarious.
A fantastic audio journey. Radio 4 only had the first 4/5 episodes available.
A credit well spent, I really enjoyed settling in under my duvet to listen to the complete series of their holibob travels in four night flat.
Rated 1 less star as I love Sam Kelly and he should have played Carter from the start. x
