Fabulous author and narrator
Adbraham Verghese knows how to write a book, and then proceeds to narrates it as it should be delivered, not many can do that.
There is so much going on over 70 years in this book, but it is not confusing. Loved the medical side of things that the author who is also a doctor brings to the story,
I enjoyed the book and its evocative descriptions, however I prefer his previous book Cutting for stone.

A most beautiful and wonderful book
I loved this book and think it is one of the best books I have read in some years. The writing is wonderful and the plot is cleverly pulled together, over such a long period of time. The characters are so well drawn, as are the historical and geographical elements. It is quite a page turner as well, and I didnt want the book to end.
I could feel myself in Kerala and Madrasa and Scotland and felt so engaged by the ideas in the book which has elements of philosophy and medicine, as well as feeling I really knew and had even met these characters.
The author reads his novel with such grace and emotion. More please!!!

Excellent epic story
Wonderful writing, a lot of fascinating history & medical science & superbly narrated albeit a slightly dodgy Glaswegian accent. Highly recommended.

Exceptional. Absolutely loved getting lost in this beautiful and wondrous story, superbly narrated by the author. I can't imagine how much work went into creating this book. What a gift!

absolutely superb
i loved the book, it was beautifully written and is truly captivating. Verghese is absolutely talented in his art. The book is long but well worth reading every chapter.
