Not Conan Doyle at his best
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote hundreds of short stories in many different genres, ranging from mystery and terror to sport and military history. Naturally, some of these stories are better than others. While all of the tales in this collection are well written, most suffer from thin plots, ludicrous situations or silly maguffins. 'The Ring of Thoth' and 'The Brazilian Cat' are probably the best of the lot. Phil Reynolds' narration is fine, if unexceptional. If you are new to Conan Doyle's stories, try the Brigadier Gerard tales first.
