Summary

He is darkness. She wants him dead. In a city starved of light, she might just succeed. She moves like a shadow; she kills silently: Raven.

This elegant assassin has been on the run for years. This time, though, she has picked the wrong target.

The hitman known only as "Victor" is as paranoid as he is merciless and is no stranger to being hunted. He tracks his would-be killer across the globe, aiming not only to neutralise the threat but to discover who wants him dead.

The trail leads to New York...and then the lights go out. Over 12 hours of unremitting darkness, Manhattan dissolves into chaos. Amid looting, conspiracy and blackout, Victor and Raven play a vicious game of cat and mouse that the city will never forget.

too much, the man hunt in Manhattan lol

love tom woods series and this narrator, BUT this story seems to be a filler, ie running out of ideas, the man hunt)chase through Manhattan is just too far fetched. disappointed

Great suspense with precise brilliant narration.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Darkest Day to be better than the print version?

No. The narration draws you into Victor's character and his world. The whole series has a wonderful consistency of creating unexpected outcomes in the different situations and dangers Victor cleverly overcomes. This is a great listen.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Darkest Day?

All of Victor's action scenes where he somehow manages to stay alive even if he is caught and things look dire!! In particular where he works with Raven but neither trust each other.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The end point where the final outcome of Raven is uncertain, and Victor moves on.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Invisible Killer

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next in the series along as you keep the same narrator.

Another great Victor adventure

The usual detail, pace and cold-blooded murder from one of the best out there. Victor finds himself with a partner and this brings a new dimension to the character. I enjoyed the pace and this and as usual, the audio book was delivered exceptionally.

Too much fluff.

While the narration was spot on as always the story was not up to the usual standard. The ridiculous chase through Manhattan took up far too much space (just how many cars can you steal in an hour?) and the plot was a bit contrived. I enjoyed the end, and the interactions between Victor and Raven, but Mr Wood needs to up his game a bit as this smacked of complacency.

Great story with fantastic narration

Another great instalment of the series, brought to life perfectly by the excellent narration of Daniel Philpott. Looking forward to the next book, fingers crossed with the same narrator!

Fast Paced Thriller

I've really started to like Tom Wood's Victor the assassin books with 'Better off Dead' being a real highlight for me. Although this is not the best in the series in my opinion, the author has still worked up a solid thriller. If you have enjoyed any of Tom Wood's earlier works, this will no doubt be a welcome addition to your library.

Another killer story!

the way this plot unfolds makes me think the author has been in the mists of killers and government spooks!

Great job Vic

Any additional comments?

As with my other reviews in this fantastic Tom Wood series, I have nothing but good things to say about it. Victor the assassin does it again, much like a modern day James Bond. Though it may not be shaken, the story is stirred up into a concussion of cool killings and savage cool headedness.

This guy is so cool. Buy it!
