About this listen
Five sex-free dates. How hard can it be?
When they were at uni, Owen always had a bit of a crush on Nathan. But Nathan was apparently straight, and Owen was too busy with other guys to take his crush seriously.
When Nathan moves back to Bristol after a year away, Owen hears that Nathan has come out of the closet, and he propositions him. Nathan doesn't want to be just another notch on Owen's bedpost, though, so he challenges Owen to prove he can be serious: five dates before they have sex.
Owen doesn't think that sounds too difficult. He's expecting Nathan to find his charms irresistible anyway. But as they grow closer, Owen begins to care more about proving himself to Nathan than he does about getting him into bed.
©2014 Jay Northcote (P)2015 Jay NorthcoteIt took me until near the end to adjust to Matthew’s voice and narration. I think it’s a personal thing because I’ve been listening to quite a few American narrators recently and it took me a while to adjust even though I’m from the UK. I was expecting a younger, less sophisticated voice. The performance, however, was professional and the production is of a high quality. I enjoyed Matthew’s narration of this story, and after the second hearing, I now think he suits the characters and the plot very well. Highly recommended.

What made the experience of listening to The Dating Game the most enjoyable?
I just loved this story line. Five dates without sex is a premise that intrigued me and I loved this book so much. Romance, passion and Owen learning that some things are worth fighting for... awesome and such an enjoyable narration.Awesome

What did you like most about The Dating Game?
I loved this book when I first read it, I liked the idea of the boys "dating" as opposed to just heading straight to bed, something we may all be guilty of from time to time *whistles innocently* And the dates are not so mushy you can't believe that two 20 somethings would do them, we are not talking candlelit dinners for 2 but proper go out and have fun. With a bit of sneaky kissing thrown in for good measure. The awkwardness when trying out phone sex also rang very true. This is just one of those fab feel good books. (I also REALLY want lemon cheesecake!)What did you like best about this story?
I had some very strong visuals of the climbing wall ...... yeah .... umm ..... *practices innocent whistle again*What does Matthew Lloyd Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I love Matthew's narration, it is such a joy to hear an English voice reading. This book has a very British setting and turns of phrase and any other accent would have just not worked. He has a very mellow but clear voice that is an absolute pleasure to listen too and he didn't put on any terrible Bristolian accents either although you could differentiate between the characters. He also made me "feel" the sexy bits but without going over the top. I hear he is going to narrate other books by this author and I am totally thrilled. If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
