Summary
From multi-award-winning author J.E. Reed comes a breathtaking new series full of love and survival.
A queen in hiding. Two countries at war.
When 18-year-old Arianna is stolen from her family and sold into slavery, she spends months disguised as a half-breed Fae struggling against the devastations of a decade-long war. But she never expected to find herself at the mercy of her country's greatest enemy.
General Rion is ruthless and commanding. He relishes in his reputation as The Demon-a vile creature incapable of love or compassion. With a secret no one can know, Arianna strives to placate him while plotting her escape, but sometimes fate has other plans and rumors can't always be trusted.
She'll have to make a choice. Kill the most feared male on the continent or stay and let a forbidden bond take root. But what will happen when he discovers her secret?

A good read
The story was really interesting, gripping, was very invested in the characters. The narration was good! Nor a huge fan of the English accents, but didn't detract from the story, and the overall narration was brilliant, will definitely listen to this narrator in future. Looking forward to the next installment.

Fantastic first book
What can I say other than wow I read on average 6 books a week but don’t often leave a review but this book was amazing.
Very slow burn but it’s worth the wait. My heart bled for Rion he really is misunderstood. Arianna was such a loving and caring soul seeing the best in almost everyone but make no mistake when pushed she will and does kill like and for her demon.
I don’t want to leave spoilers so I’m going to stop now but please buy this book you won’t be disappointed. If I could give more than 5 stars I most definitely would. ♥️♥️💔🌟🌟💔♥️♥️😍😍

✨🩵💗🔥✨
First of all, I just want to say a grateful thank you to the author for sending me a free copy of this audiobook, I enjoyed most of it a lot! But there were a few things I have to be honest about 💗
To begin, I do feel the love story developed a little to quickly, I would have liked the enemies to lovers trope to have stayed into enemy territory a bit longer 🫶🏻 but that might be because I’m not a reader who is a big fan of insta love. However, that is just a personal preference and doesn’t dissuade from the authors technique or talent at all!
Furthermore, I couldn’t connect with the characters, mainly because I didn’t know much about them. We know Arianna is a secret queen on the run, and Rion is the commander of an army, but that’s all we know about them personally. I think forming connections to them and their pasts as individuals would pull me in closer, deepening the readers love for them as people.
I did like the setting and realm, it was magical and brilliant with wonder. I thought the world building was impeccable and well developed. The fae setting, a growing war between enemy kingdoms, and the chase of being on run and finding refuge in a commander not known for being kind was a very well, thought out balance.
The writing style was dual pov first person which is my favourite format to read, so I loved that! And the writing, wow. I am an aspiring author myself and hope to one day write as good as name.
Overall, the plot and story itself was so incredibly thought out and planned, but I think the part I’m struggling with is the characters. But you as it’s next reader might have no qualms with that aspect, so I guess it’s a personal belief in how this story feels to you. Try it and see how you feel! I would still recommend immensely 💗

Great Read
I am normally a high fantasy reader, so when I picked up this Audiobook, I was very surprised by how fast I got into it!
The characters are 👩🍳😗 "chefs kiss".
I loved the chemistry between the MMC and FMC.
What do I think will happen in book two??
I think it is going to be one hell of a rollercoaster ride and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Loved the narrator choice 🌟🌟🌟🌟

A fantasy you can't miss!
I’m in awe over Arianna and her characterisation. At eighteen years old, the compassion she showed, the tenacity she displayed and the fierce way she loved when all she had seen were abuse and violence was a jaw dropping experience for me.
I loved the characters and their backstories. The depth of their feelings rooting back to everything they’ve been through showed their strength and growth effectively. I was scared of it becoming a love triangle situation but it was all respectfully handled and I’m so grateful to see any of them characterised by this relationship alone.
The complexity of human emotions was wonderfully explained throughout the book. The people I expected to be awful had a side of them I respected (begrudgingly, of course) but still… It’s not easy to label someone after all.
The relationships forged throughout the book were inspiring. The familial bonds, the bonds formed through camaraderie and friendship had me loving them more. I loved how protective they got when the other was in danger.
I loved every character but Rion has a special place in my heart. Everything he went through forged him into something he didn’t want to but the way he yearned for someone to trust and the way he broke down had me in tears!! All I wanted was to wrap Rion in a fluffy blanket and protect him. 😭😭😭
I was so scared of what was going to happen but was delighted by the ending! I’m so looking forward to seeing what they will do in the future! Together!🥰😅
I got to listen to the audiobook and I loved the experience so much. The narrator had me hooked on the trailer early on and I couldn’t stop in the middle! It’s just so good🤌🏻
Thank you so much to the author for sending me the audiobook to review!!!!

Really smooth and good writing
I liked the characters, but I feel like the story wasnt too deep, but I am not mad because at it, because it was a good book. I loved the narrator too, she did a great job narrating.
