About this listen

After the death of his mother, Albert "Shoe" Horn is left to provide for his alcoholic father and look after his younger brother Bobby - a teenager with the mind of a child. After Shoe inadvertently kills a man in a fight, he must try to balance the need to protect his brother and his desire to protect himself. Shoe's story unfolds against the 1922 union strikes in England, as he must choose between living his father's life, with his brother, or a new life in America, alone.©2009 Ron McLarty (P)2009 Random House Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction

I am finding it hard to listen to- set in England but narrated by an American. Worse, the narrator cannot even pronounce Morecombe Bay properly. Even Barrow-in-Furness gets mangled. Sloppy narration!

I love Ron as a narrator...I've read so many of his books. So when I saw he'd written one, I thought; good for you and bought it straight away!
I begin with the fact that I couldn't finish it...my bad, but gosh it was brutal! Even as a narrator he didn't kick it-and that's a first from me.
I think perhaps I'll try and simply read it-but the audio certainly wasn't digestible for me! Still love his voice though :))
