About this listen

Brooding Hawk St Claire, Duke of Stourbridge, believes Jane Smith to be a mere servant girl. So when genteel Miss Jane is wrongly turned out of her home, the Duke takes her in as his ward. Although Hawk is the first man to make Jane's pulse race, she knows she cannot risk falling for him. A marriage between them would be forbidden - especially if he were to discover the shameful truth about her....

Awful! The title " The Duke of Stourborough" is thrown at you in nearly every paragraph. The Author appears to think the more often you mention his title, the quicker you will grasp he is a DUKE and thinks a lot of himself and his position. Before the end of the first chapter, I was sick of it.....but it continues throughout the book. Also, I became fed up with the Duke shouting the name "Jane" nearly every other word to her in conversations, even when he ought to be more pleasant to her as he is trying to put her at her ease of attempting to get information from her. I like Carole Mortimer's more modern romances, but think she has made a mistake trying to write period stories. This just does not come off! Most Regency romances tell you something about the life in those times, this does not. I finished the book to find out the "plot", which at least brings about the usual Mortimer happy ending. Not a book I will go back to.
