About this listen

Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting.

The Explosive Child is the highly acclaimed, lifechanging parenting guide in which Dr. Greene first delineated the Collaborative Problem Solving approach. Dr. Greene explains why kids exhibit challenging behaviors, why traditional behavior management strategies may not be effective for many kids, and how to use Plan B to solve problems collaboratively and teach your child the skills he or she is lacking.

As the model has evolved over the years, so has The Explosive Child, and it is available here in an abridged and updated fourth edition narrated by Dr. Greene.

Throughout this compassionate, insightful, and practical book, Dr. Greene provides a new conceptual framework for understanding their difficulties. He explains why traditional parenting and treatment often don't work with these children, and he describes what to do instead. Instead of relying on rewarding and punishing, Dr. Greene's Collaborative Problem Solving model promotes working with explosive children to solve the problems that precipitate explosive episodes, and teaching these kids the skills they lack.

I love the philosophy behind this book and the strategies make a lot of sense. it's very short though and not got a lot of practical examples of how to put "plan B" into action, particularly with younger children. It did make me feel a lot better and about my explosive child however, and after reading it I feel more confident and calm in coming up with strategies to help her learn the skills she needs.

Very reassuring

Applicable to so many other situations not just for use with children! Collaborative problem solving is a difficult skill to learn & we all continue developing this skill throughout our lives whether it be with friends, teachers, family or working professionals. Great book and very well said. 👏

Everyone needs to read this!

I wanted to argue back with this book so much, then heard every argument taken to it's conclusion, then it's origin in some trauma. it asks you to avoid trying the impossible task of unlearning neural connections that already exist and offers the tools and practices to grow new ones that are going to give you the break you're desperate for

basic reading if you're responsible for humans

A second listen is necessary for me. It's simple and even obvious in one way but unfortunately it's not the usual approach to raising kids/sorting problems, so it'll take practice. Very clear, step by step approach . It's given me hope for less explosions and more understanding in my household.

A guide to getting along well

As this is abridged I wonder what detail from the book we are missing. Is this enough to do what we need? It's a cheap audible title as it was q copy of the cd, do designed for two CDs clearly.

As for content it's okay but nothing radicle other similar tiles haven't covered.

Wonder what I'm missing
