About this listen

In the early hours, just after midnight, a power cut strikes and in an abandoned street, a broken clock starts ticking.

James Fynch doesn't believe in magic. He is an ordinary boy, immersed in the world of modern technology—until his 14th birthday, when something extraordinary happens. Turning the dials of an ancient clock, he finds himself mysteriously transported to a magical, parallel world. Here, he begins to learn of the firestone, one of four mythical crystals able to defeat the rising darkness. The barrier between worlds hasn't been broken for centuries, but with dark powers rising, it is more fragile than ever before. Confronted with darkness, danger, and death, James must begin a perilous quest to find the firestone....

The Firestone is the first book in Francesca Tyer’s spellbinding Elemental Prophesy series. If you enjoyed His Dark Materials, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Prydain, and Harry Potter, then you will certainly love The Firestone.

Excellent book read by a great narrator and actor

The Firestone is the first in a series of books by Francesca Tyer. The second book, The Seastone, is already out in print, but not yet in audio.
The Firestone is a rollercoaster YA fantasy story that takes the hero into a parallel dimensional world where he takes on the task of defeating The Dark. To do this he must collect a number of talismans, the first of which is the Firestone. Along the way he meets friends who help him and foes that try to defeat him.
Clive Mantle, the narrator, is obviously well known for acting in Casualty and for being the love interest for Geraldine Grainger in The Vicar of Dibley. He uses his acting talents very well in this book.
I highly recommend this book, not just to Young Adults, but the older generation as well. In fact I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced adventure that goes beyond the bounds and restrictions of our limiting world. and into the mind of a talented author like Francesca Tyer
