About this listen
Frankie Howerd was one of Britain’s most popular entertainers, with a career spanning over 30 years. Starting his career during WW2, he went on to widespread fame in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s with films and extensive TV work. Famous for his knowing asides in to the camera--”Oooh no missus”, and “Titter ye not”, he was best known for his stage hit ‘A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum’ and later, and with even more success, the TV spin off ‘Up Pompeii!’, where he played Lurcio. He also had great success in films, notably the ‘Carry On’ series and ‘The Great St Trinian Train Robbery’. Toward the end of his life he became quite a cult figure with a much younger audience, and even undertook a one man UK tour of Universities. His unique appeal lay in his innate comic abilities, and throughout his career he became known for those famous asides to the camera or the audience, where he feigned innocence about a naughty double entendre --and his shock at how the audience had taken something the wrong way ; “Oh no missus, stop it….ooh you’re ahead of me there aren’t you, you filthy lot!” “No stop mocking Francis”. ‘The Howerd Confessions’ show this comic genius to great effect. All the trademark remarks are here, plus his confessions acted out in 6 playlets, over two volumes. It also features the wonderful actress Joan Sims ( Carry On films).

PLEASE. Don't be coarse, don't show us up
a brilliant comedy show from the master of comedy and innuendo. Loved the bit when he said to his future wife that he would buy her a cat and stroke her pussy every Tuesday and the audience roared with laughter and he said the above tagline. brilliant

Not great
I love the work of Frankie Howard, but to be honest this is pretty lame. Sorry.
