Summary

Welcome to Borley Rectory, the most haunted house in England.

It's 1926. Sarah Grey has a new job - assistant to Harry Price, London's most infamous ghost hunter. Harry has devoted his life to exposing the truth behind England's 'false hauntings', and never has he left a case unsolved.

They are invited to Borley Rectory - a house so haunted that objects fly through the air. But when night falls, they're forced to confront an uncomfortable possibility: the ghost of Borley Rectory may be real.

Enjoyable yarn

Compelling, well developed characters. Interesting idea and a plot that kept me guessing. Great twisty ending

Great performance. Tedious tale.

The last half dragged pretty bad and Spring took the whole thing into a disappointingly predictable and trite direction.

Great characters

It was a little slow but the characters are amusing and enjoyed the story.. Rather listen than read as not at all fast paced.. Worth a listen.

Lacklustre

This is an intriguing premise but I found the execution tedious. It seemed to be repetitive and a bit shambling in its seemingly interminable descriptions of Harry Price's investigations. I think the problem is that it is told from the viewpoint of his secretary so she is only telling what she sees. The idea may be that we come to understand as she does but I don’t think it works as a device as I felt it distanced me too much from the events described. It also gets a bit “Mills & Boon” in parts. It is not frightening, mysterious or intriguing. It did really drag and there were far too many coy comments such as “if I had known then what was to come...”. It may have been designed to crank up the tension but I didn’t feel it worked.

The narrators do a good job with the material they are given, good clear voices, proper emphases and pronunciation.

really really good

i wasn't sure what to expect, I got this book in a 2 for 1 credit sale and though it sounded interesting. I had ever heard of Harry price before and didn't realise this book was inspired somewhat loosely on real events/peoples. I really enjoyed the book and I have start to look into his research due to it. would recommend this book to anyone who is into the supernatural.

60% fiction, 30% fact, 10% mystery

A good fictional ghost story woven around real events and sprinkled with genuine mystery through the reality of the actual proceedings. Borley rectory itself is the blueprint for many fictional tales, the beauty of this house is, IT EXISTED. Well performed by both readers and a pace sufficient to keep me engaged. Will consider another Spring book!

Not sure

I finished this title, but I'm not sure why. To be honest it was rather long-winded and boring, yet you somehow find yourself listening to it anyway. The narration was good, bother narrators have pleasant voices and are clearly spoken. Really can't say I would recommend this title as it left me feeling rather unimpressed.

Fantastic

Absolutely brilliant, I've listened to this book numerous times now and it entertains me every time. it's not 100% true to life but the other does use real evidence and happenings in places.

Highly recommended

Loved this story

I dont know what you call this genre but I love Neil Spring's mixing of real people with fiction and reality with something other. I also enjoy the little tag lines (no give aways) which connect the author's other books.
I think Neil Spring is my new favourite author.
