I loved every minute of this book!
Knowing the area well helped me to really get a feel for the setting of this story. Having the Bronte's in it added a 'real life' feel to the story too.
The main characters now and in the past were very well described and their stories were woven with real skill.
I liked the ending....but would love a book 2 as I keep thinking of the characters that were there at the end and wondering how they are getting on.

I only recently discovered this author, but her work is wonderful. Slightly other worldly, yet so real, very satisfying, nuanced characters, and often gripping. I really enjoyed this. Not quite as much as The Summer Of Lost Things, but almost. I will definitely read or listen to more. So enjoyable.

Full of suspense and frequently had me biting my nails. I mean listening to it whilst walking the dogs around fields in the dark definitely added to the scared inner feeling I got at times but it is set on the Moors so made it feel more authentic. Really clever story line and brilliant ideas; if only they were true! I mean, who's to say they're not?

A lovely book. Read in 3 days. Interesting story. Would have liked an authors note to say where truth meets imagination. Characters believable. Villain not too wicked

A beautiful story combining love, hatred, loss, rekindling of relationships, humour, hope, respect and descriptions of beautiful scenery. Mesmerising!

The book was well-read, but it was a bit too emotional for me. Everything was "heart-wrenching", and there was a great deal of sobbing on the part of the main characters and their parallel character. It wasn't for me but if you love the Brontes, a bit of historical romance, and schmalzy mother-son/daughter-mother interactions, then this is a great choice for you.

this book is good no mistake , but it doesn't half drag the story out a bit . thoughts feelings etc , but I guess that was the bulk of the story . I kinda guessed that Marcus was related to the bad guy front way back when and it was almost a certainty that long lost husband was gonna be alive at the end
