About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

You live on a picturesque communal garden square, an oasis in urban London where your children run free, in and out of other people's houses.

You've known your neighbours for years, and you trust them. Implicitly.

You think your children are safe.

But are they really?

Midsummer night: a 13-year-old girl is found unconscious in a dark corner of the garden square. What really happened to her? And who is responsible?

Utterly believable characters, a gripping story and a dark secret buried at its core: this is Lisa Jewell at her heart-stopping best.

Good but not one of her best

I enjoyed listening to this book, but I have enjoyed Lisa’s other books a lot more. The story was okay, the performances were sometimes a little bit off

A good story but a slightly ‘meh’ ending

Liked the story and the character development. Really felt like I knew the families involved. It kept me interested throughout.
The ending was a bit lack-lustre though. I’m not a huge fan of when things feel left unresolved, but I can see why it was done that way.
Narration was really good!

All a bit meh

Not as good as her usual books. Disappointing as she is usually better. Disappointing really

4 stars

Very gripping thriller with a lot of mystery and intrigue.
The story centred around a group of children some of whom seemed wise beyond their years.
The author lead you up a lot of paths before the true answers were revealed.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable book.

A great read

Narration was spot on, characters were relatable and transported me as if I was actually there watching everything unfold. Wanted a different ending but you can't have it all!

This one kept me guessing

As usual, the characterisation and scene setting were great. I love this author’s style - no heavy prose or over embellishments. The story was simple but kept me guessing until the end. A great read.

All Mums Should Read This

Another Lisa Jewell mystery but in fact a story about real life. I loved meeting all the characters and seeing them interact. As a mum of girls I empathised with the anxiety and fears of Adele and Claire and completely understood how they would keep secrets for their children. Lisa Jewell you never let your readers down. I can’t wait to read your next novel.
