I loved the idea of a collection of classic short stories because I listen to most of my audible library at bedtime and quite often fall asleep when listening to a full length book...this then, promised to be the ideal solution...not!!

I don't know who Cathy Dobson is...is she related to someone high up in the company? She is truly appalling and this is the worst narration I have ever heard in my life. Her inflection bears no relation to anything she is saying...is she computer generated?

It's my own silly fault for not listening to a sample but please, I beg you, don't make the mistake that I did. You could land up throwing Alexa out of the window or gently hitting it repeatedly with a sledge hammer.

Huge disappointment.

This says narrated by Cathy Dobson but I think it's a computer. The cadence is weird. Unable to listen to more than 10 minutes.

terrible narration

I didn't get into this at all due to the irritating voice of the narrator

Waste of my free credit

It is almost impossible to listen to these stories as the narration style is so awful. What a dreadful shame.

Dreadful narration

I do not tend to write reviews as I feel everyone has differing likes and dislikes but having bought this compilation of stories I thought I would find at least a few I liked. Unfortunately I cannot listen to them as the narrators style or perhaps lack of it makes me cringe. There is inflections at the start and end which do not match the sentences she is reading. This was so off putting I was getting nauseous listening.
Worse still having jumped through a few stories I found this vocal hiatus was reading every story.
I cannot comment on the quality of the writers as the narrator made them unlistenable.

Annoying Voice

some good stories but hard to listen to because of narration. Even with a good story I had to stop and get back to it later!

Unfortunately I found the reading style very offputting, and missed sections of some of the stories because I was too distracted by the way that they are narrated. There are some great stories in this compilation, but sadly I can’t listen to any more of them - the reading style detracts too much from the story.

Narration difficult to listen to

What would have made The Great British Short Story Collection better?

I have just bought this and within a few sentences I realised I had made a mistake. The narrator has such an annoying voice, I can't stand to listen. Avoid at all costs!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Cathy Dobson

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Cathy Dobson?

Anyone

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Very unpleasant narration:

Would you try another book written by the authors or narrated by Cathy Dobson?

I WOULD NEVER LISTEN TO A BOOK FEATURING THIS NARRATOR. I HAVE HAD TO GIVE THE STORIES ONLY ONE STAR AS I SIMPLY COULD NOT LISTEN TO THEM.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Cathy Dobson?

ANYBODY

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

UTTER DISBELIEF: THAT AUDIBLE COULD SELL THIS RUBBISH

Any additional comments?

IF I GET ANOTHER LIKE THIS I LEAVE AUDIBLE FOR GOOD

DO NOT BUY THIS RUBBISH
