Summary
The best-selling book on heart disease, updated with the latest research and clinical findings on high-fat/ketogenic diets, sugar, genetics, and other factors.
Heart disease is the number-one killer. However, traditional heart disease protocols - with their emphasis on lowering cholesterol - have it all wrong. Emerging science is showing that cholesterol levels are a poor predictor of heart disease and that standard prescriptions for lowering it, such as ineffective low-fat/high-carb diets and serious, side-effect-causing statin drugs, obscure the real causes of heart disease. Even doctors at leading institutions have been misled for years based on creative reporting of research results from pharmaceutical companies intent on supporting the $31-billion-a-year cholesterol-lowering drug industry.
The Great Cholesterol Myth reveals the real culprits of heart disease, including inflammation, fibrinogen, triglycerides, homocysteine, belly fat, triglyceride to HDL ratios, and high glycemic levels.

Eye opening
Everyone should listen to this! Incredible information. I’ve just listened to Glucose Revolution and that has a lot of the same info which is reassuring!

High Cholesterol, you need to get this
I was told I needed statins about a week ago and I held back.
2 days later I got this and listened to it non stop, im glad I did.
1 it confirmed my desired not to be on statins and it made me look for alternative options.
its confirmed what I've known for a while.
seriously this book needs to be read by everyone.
you owe it to yourself

Excellent but amusingly hypocritical
Great book and I agree with all the content and message. They rightly criticise the pharma industry’s approach to statistics using relative rather than absolute improvements. Then they go on to do exactly the same thing themselves for the rest of the book! Not a problem as I understand what they mean but it kept me amused!

The truth! Scientifically dissected in layman's terms for an enjoyable listen
A believer in the great cholesterol con after researching as part of my own studies some years ago, I enjoyed listening to this author unravel the headlines and studies to expose the truth and the 'interesting' marketing claims by Big Pharma. A must listen for anyone sitting on the fence about cholesterol in heart disease!

Learnt a lot from this book. A little ranty at the start.
First few chapters were a little irritating with the disproportionate ranting:educational content and I nearly quit the book. I’m so glad I persisted because I have learnt a lot and think there are life-tips in here for everyone. I particular enjoyed soaking up the content on statins! Thank you.

Excellent book
This is an excellent book, so much information! Explains so much about cholesterol and statins. I enjoyed it so much that I also bought a copy for reference. GPs in the U.K. just want to bang you straight on a statin and this book explains that a lot of people don’t need to be on them.

I'd Worry for People Following Advice in this Book
Having listened to about two and a half hours of this, and then having looked up some of the claims, I'd be concerned at the agenda this audiobook pushes.
The first clue that something isn't quite right is when a large amount of time at the beginning goes on about what they are going to tell you and what you are going to learn, instead of actually getting on with presenting their facts and arguments. That is always a sign that what's to follow is, at best, dubious. However, the main thing that set off red flags for me was the mention of the Atkins diet in a positive light. This is the one diet that is universally condemned by every (proper) study and credible nutrition scientist around. Sure, you'll be able to find loads of crank sources on the Internet backing up the diet, but serious scientific sources? Not so much.
So what about their arguments and scientific facts. Well, there is some interesting and useful information in here, such as how certain experiments are done and information about different types of cholesterol. But the problem is, what they are pushing (cholesterol isn't an indicator of heart disease and statins won't prevent heart attacks) is rejected by people far, far, far more expert than the authors.
If you want to listen to some great advice about cholesterol and watch some videos where real experts in the field are interviewed about the topic, then check out the 'Nutrition Made Simple' channel by Dr. Carvalho on a well known video streaming site.
I'm not saying that this book is rubbish and I may finish it (it's included for free at the moment), but I'd just take everything that's said with a HUGE pinch of salt. I certainly wouldn't stop taking any medication based on this audiobook - the results of doing that could well be fatal.
