Summary
Jack Marconi is back in legal hot water. In The Guilty, Jack finds himself investigating a local restaurateur and spoiled playboy who's accused of attempting to murder his school teacher girlfriend. As the now brain-damaged young woman begins recalling events of that fateful dark winter night when she was allegedly pushed down the stairs of a West Albany mansion, she becomes the target of the powerful but angry foodie/sex-obsessed boyfriend once again. Only this time, he's cooking up a bloody plot to keep her silenced forever.

Any additional comments?
Author Vincent Zandri can be counted on to come up with a good story and larger than life protagonists and The Guilty does not disappoint. A civil court case between the very rich architect father of a girl left brain damaged after a fall on the icy steps of her fiancée's home and that same fiancee, involves PI, former prison supervisor, Jack 'Keeper' Marconi in an investigation to find out if she fell - or was she pushed?
The story is wild, twisted and very enjoyable and made all the more so by the narration of the excellent Andrew Wehrein. His voicings of each of the protagonists is distinctly individual and he becomes the fast talking, rather jaded investigator, Keeper. The story is told in the first person from the PI's point of view, with occasional 'news bulletins' from a food blogger's column. A cleverly written outrageous story with witty asides and well performed: a must for all who enjoy the charismatic bad boy investigative genre. My thanks to the rights holder who gifted me a copy of this fun book, via Audiobook Boom at my request.

A Gripping Hard-Boiled Mystery.
This is the second book I have enjoyed with this Narrator/Author combo, and it was just as good as when I first joined them in Moonlight Falls.
I received an ARC of this audiobook and this review has been left voluntarily.
Although this is the third book in the series it can be enjoyed as a standalone. Hired by Howard Sanders, our hero Jack is the Private Dick on the case of what really happened to his daughter Sarah one cold night in February... did she really slip on the ice... or was she pushed down the stairs by her BDSM fanatic boyfriend?
Nothing about the case adds up. If she had just fallen and hit her head... why did her fiancé call his father instead of the ambulance? Why did they take her to a hole in the wall emergency room miles away instead of the nearby hospital? Sarah's memory is unreliable, and 6 months between the incident and now have almost depleted any chance of evidence from the 'crime scene'. Jack quickly learns that theres more to this story when several attempts are made on his life, and evidence starts pointing him back to his own client. Then back to the fiancé when he discovers the private torture room in the mans basement.
Teaming up with his new partner Blood, Jack "Keeper" Marconi tries to solve the mystery but clashes with the police who begin treating him as the prime suspect when another young woman ends up dead.
Are the authorities being paid off by someone higher up the food-chain?
Whatever is going on... Jack has to get to the bottom of it soon before he and Sarah end up silenced for good.
