Summary

The Hanging Valley is the fourth novel in Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series, following on from A Necessary End.

TWO MURDERS. A MISSING PERSON. A VILLAGE WITH A TERRIBLE SECRET.

A faceless corpse is found in a tranquil, hidden valley below the village of Swainshead, the victim’s identity deliberately obscured. And when Chief Inspector Alan Banks arrives, he finds that no-one is willing to talk. Banks's frustration only grows when he suspects his latest case might be connected with an unsolved murder and a missing local woman, which occurred in the same area five years ago.

Among the silent suspects are the Collier brothers, the wealthiest and most powerful family in the area. When they start using their influence to slow down the investigation, Banks finds himself in a race against time...

The Hanging Valley is followed by Past Reason Hated, the fifth book in this Yorkshire-based crime series which became the major British ITV drama DCI Banks.

Always Enjoyable

I have all these books in paperback but I still like to listen to these books . The narration is very good but my only criticism would be the ending. I won't spoil it for future listeners but it wasn't ( even when I first read the book ) the ending I had expected but then again does that make a good story. Still a very good listen....... you decide !

can't get enough

I absolutely love this series of books. can't wait to start the next one. I would highly recommend to any readers who love a detective story with lots of twists and turns. I especially loved how this one ended! brilliant

Love this series. Not this book.

Narrator is good as always but, I was disappointed with this book. The story seemed a little haphazard and didn't have a definitive ending with a complete explanation. Poorest one I have listened to so far.

Excellent

Atmospheric as well as well-crafted and well-narrated. Altogether an enjoyable listen on its own or as part of the series.

not as good as previous books

I didn't enjoy this as much as previous books, the culprit was fairly obvious. Also the ending was very abrupt and unsatisfying.

it was well read however.

Good story, annoying accent

I'm loving the DCI Banks stories, but being from Yorkshire I'm constantly irritated by the narrators Yorkshire accent. It's very good generally but he keeps throwing in extra 'tut's. We're off to 'tut' shops, watching 'tut' television! 😂😂😂
