Summary
The Healer's Awakening is a compelling saga with a touch of romance. It's the perfect listen for fans of authors like Philippa Gregory, Lindsey Jayne Ashford and Dinah Jefferies.
Since Ginevra Innocenti’s death, the cottage has lain empty and abandoned in the woods. Until the day Ginevra’s granddaughter, Sara, sees a dragonfly in the depths of winter. Intrigued, she follows it and discovers the forgotten cottage. When Sara learns that her grandmother was once a healer, a series of events is set in motion which could lead to the end of the family legacy. As long-hidden secrets are revealed, Sara starts to doubt everything she once believed in. Her mind in turmoil, she no longer knows whether she can follow in the footsteps of her ancestors. Disowned by her parents, it’s time to make a difficult decision. But rumours leave Sara fearing for her future. Will the curse of the Innocenti strike her family once more?

Fantastic
Listened to this 3rd book on audiable.
As this series continues, we meet more of the family and how the line continues down through generations of women learning about healing and their herritage.
Sara, in 1880, found the cottage and began to ask questions of her mother regarding the place which she was told it simply isn't safe and she should stay away. Well, of course, this wasn't going to happen...
This 3rd book opens up into exploring how the curse put upon the cottage back in 1300s by Agnes brother in law Phillipe. Her mother has the book Agnes had written her recipes in but won't give it to Sara as she doesn't want Sara to follow the path of healing as many other women in their family had done. Sara begins to dig deep into working on herself, becoming a healer as she was led by the dragonflies as each woman in her family who had gone before her with the exception of her mother. Sara found teachings in Anna-Maria known as the soul catcher to assist her, trying to learn of her grandmothers healing nature.
Sara begins to fix up the cottage with the help of Bernado then she learns of her heritage by Anna-Maria one day speaking to her when Anna-Maria was having one of her bad days mistaking Sara for her grandmother Ginevra which sent her into spiral wondering what happened to this child of Bernado, a stable boy, a peasant, so where was she, who was this child, then she realises this child was her mum, Sara's mum. Believing she isn't a healer because of her lineage, she isn't of the Innocenti lineage that has been known to be healers of the past she runs to forest where she finds a headstone (Bobs) with her dragonfly and hears a voice telling her of the plague of love and all the things that had happened in the past then giving her comfort, forgiveness and peace from all the pent up anger she had previously felt at her original discovery of her family bloodlines.
Bernado explained to Sara he believed the best thing to do for Ginevra was to let her marry Ludificro as she was due to and he stepped back but she was beaten by her husband as he knew she was expecting a child that wasnt his and she thereafter refused to be a healer. This changed the course of healing in the family as Sara's mother was brought up with what seemed a curse on the family she had fear from the past from her own mothers experiences, she feared the villagers opinions of what was considered witches & the actions that may come from healing such as being stoned or burned at the stake hence this is why she tried to keep her own daughter away from the path of healing.
Sara's wish for knowledge & strength was overwhelming that she would push on to learn more and find her way in her own healing journey with the continuing help of Anna-Maria, Bernado the dragonflies, many more along her journey not to mention of course her anscestors souls along with her own inner intuition who spoke to her with advice and guidance.
Sara changed the path of healing in the community because there was a period this tradition had been abandoned due to sadness, fear and evil-doing taking over. Sara's mother allowed fear to control her path Sara would not do the same she broke this cycle with her natural ability through intuition, healing and great determination to learn, grow and make the community better to help others live better, healthier with her healing modalities. Even though Sara was faced with premonitions that were disturbing similarly as Agnes experienced in book 1 she doesn't allow this stop her path of living her purpose.
She continued to live her purpose with courage, compassion, kindness, integrity, knowledge, wisdom, love growing her own family teaching them of all her wisdom till her time came to move on and so the line of healing passes on...
Personally for me the message in this book shows how within our families things can and do change throughout generations and we all have the ability to make a change should we decide, we all have the capability to care should we face life with love, compassion & faith over fear. Yes, of course, we all have times of concern but this shows how you can have courage even when it's your own family, making times very difficult, which makes this absolutely relatable.
Another beautifully written book, and I look forward to reading the next 2 in the series. Had me in tears again at the way even what is commonly sadness and difficult times in our lives has been written in such a beautiful way.
Narration again is absolutely perfect I cannot find any criticism. Once again, I was simply immersed and lost in this timeline as if i was in that time and place
