About this listen

The Driver:

Ahead he could see only the stretch of unending road, on either side brown-scorched plains of dirt and scrub, above it all a soaring blue sky and blinding sun. Desolation that looked, to him, a hell of a lot like freedom. He wasn’t playing by anyone’s rules anymore.

The Hitchhiker:

Have you ever done something bad? The question was like a clawed hand seizing his guts. It had taken everything he’d had not to whimper, to cower away and beg. But as he’d deflected, he’d told himself to stay calm. To be in control. He had to be in control here.

The Fugitive:

She’d made a mistake. Wasn’t the first time and wouldn’t be the last. Ever since she’d left, all she’d found was more trouble. More fights. More secrets. More scars. Now here she was, still alive but a long way from anywhere, and with options dwindling fast.

From the award-winning author of The Hunted comes a fast-paced outback thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Critic reviews

"The Hitchhiker straps the listener into the chair and slowly turns up the voltage for six terrifying hours. I haven't found a cat-and-mouse game this captivating since Misery." (Jack Heath, author of Kill Your Brother)

“A terrifying tale of violence, fear and loneliness, as achingly tender as it is nail-bitingly tense. The perfect listen for your next road trip.” (Anna Downes, author of The Safe Place)

"Two things I will never do again after devouring The Hitchhiker: miss a book by Gabriel Bergmoser; ever get in a car with him..." (Benjamin Stevenson, author of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone)

Loved every minute of it and the narration was terrific. I hope to find more from this author to listen to.

I picked this title as it was free, not expecting much, but it was really good!

Wow! Really enjoyed this listen. I expected the first 2 characters that appeared but I wouldn’t have guessed the third one. Very clever stuff. The author builds the tension right to the end. Super narration.

A really brilliant story that once again is gritty and dark, bordering on elements of real life horror. The actors and actresses were excellent.

Great plotline & characters. The underlying danger present from the very start kept the reader engaged. Clever change of readers' sympathies at the start of the book.

Compelling

I’m not going to spoil the ending, but it was extremely disappointing. I liked the story throughout, there were even parts that I found really scary, which is cool because other books have not had this effect on me before. But the final sentence of the book almost ruined everything before it. it was basically the same as “it was all a dream”, which is a horrible way to end a book. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The final sentence sucked

Great story and even greater narration. It was gripping with its twists and turns. Loved the conversation between the Driver and woman near the end. An added thing to keep you interested. One I shall read again in the future. Something I rarely do. Highly recommended by me.

Great story.

The plot maintained plausibility while undulating with twists and turns. The book is performed rather than narrated, and kept my interest and engagement throughout. Finished it in less than a day, which is saying something.

Multi-layered thriller, performed with skill.
