Summary

A murderer on the loose.

A detective haunted by the past.

A race against time.

DCI Jonathan Walker is a senior detective for the Lancashire Constabulary in Northwest England. He’s haunted by events of the past and hell-bent on redemption--if he can stay healthy for long enough, that is.

After a body turns up in the sleepy village of Rufford, Walker returns from his leave of absence early, his experience deemed crucial for the case. But when it transpires the crime may be linked to a decades-old cold case involving the murder of his sister, the crime becomes personal: he needs this—for his wife and kids, to make amends for past mistakes, and for the current victim—but he must toe the line if he isn’t to be thrown off the case.

When more people start to go missing and bodies turn up with the same bizarre signature, Walker and his team realize they have a serial killer on their hands. But time is running out if they want to save more people from dying, and one in particular, and Walker has to consider breaking the law himself to make things right, once and for all.

Fans of Ian Rankin, JD Kirk, Matt Brolly, Patricia Gibney, and Michael Connelly will love this!

The Icehouse is the stunning debut police procedural crime thriller from JJ Richards.

Spoilt by Old Fashioned Narration

This title is the first in an on going series of books and as such should pick up a bit as we get to know the characters more, I do hope that is the case anyway. My main problem with listening to this book is the very old fashioned way it is narrated which took away some of the enjoyment as, in my minds eye, I kept picturing the main characters as if they were set in the 1950s -trilbies and raincoats and WPCs who were so very proper and knew their place.

In conclusion I will buy the next in the series on my Kindle so I dont have to listen to this dreadful narrator and suggest others do the same.

Great Storyline!

Listened after seeing a recommendation of Book 2 on Twitter. Thought I’d best start with Book 1! Loved the storyline and characters! Now for book 2!

The only grumble was on audiobooks it didn’t quite join up I felt I might be missing out an odd word but still enjoyed the book immensely.

A believable story

Have just finished this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. A good detective story without needing to shock the listener. No bad language either, so refreshing. The narrator was excellent and perfect for the main character. Will be buying another audiobook by this author.

Quite good

A pretty good storyline but didn’t quite hit the spot for me, a bit stilted perhaps. Good narration.

Brilliant from start to finish

I’ve just finished listening to this on audiobooks, and I have to say it was fantastic, being a truck driver I spend most days listening to true crime podcasts or crime fiction audiobooks, I have a list of favourite authors that I listen to regularly and JJ Richards has just gone into the the top 3 on that list, I thoroughly enjoyed this title, and being from Leyland (which got a small mention) it was great being able to relate to all the locations, I can’t wait to start listening to book 2, having spent most weekends for the last 30 years or so walking around rivington, this is going to be fantastic listening, keep them coming please

Fantastic book a must read

This is fabulous, especially for someone who is a Lancashire lass.
I have lived in the areas mentioned for many years but I still had to investigate into where some of the places are.
Onto your next books I guess so I a see where else I recognise.
