About this listen

In the vein of The Time Traveler's Wife and Life After Life, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times best-selling author V. E. Schwab's genre-defying tour de force.

When Addie La Rue makes a pact with the devil, she trades her soul for immortality. But there's always a price - the devil takes away her place in the world, cursing her to be forgotten by everyone. Addie flees her tiny home town in 18th-century France, beginning a journey that takes her across the world, learning to live a life where no one remembers her and everything she owns is lost and broken. Existing only as a muse, she learns to fall in love anew every single day. Until one day, in a second-hand bookshop in Manhattan, Addie meets someone who remembers her. Suddenly thrust back into a real, normal life, Addie realises she can't escape her fate forever.

Such a good story. Gripping.

A good traditional Faustian story told well. I looked forward to every spare minute I had so I could listen.

Love love love this book

The story unfolded slowly and drew me in from the very beginning. Descriptions were graphic and imaginative. Clever and intriguing story using artwork to connect to narrative. Julia Whelan’s narration was excellent. Saddened when book was finished. I shall listen to it again.

delightful and unique

Beautifully written, this book is a real delight. This is far more than a simple romance, bring in the buzz of realistic history and some absolutely excellent characterisation .
It was a pleasure to listen to th4e narrator who did an excellent job, bringing the male protagonist very much to life.
The story-line is unique and absorbing. Just a little too much repetition would be my only tiny criticism.
I would strongly recommend this thoroughly gripping and entertaining novel

Beautifully read

Sensual and wonderfully written. For once a narrator more than up to the job. Exceptional.
