Summary
Englishman Edward Prendick finds himself shipwrecked on the open ocean. When a passing ship takes him aboard and revives him, things are starting to look less gloomy for the young scientist. Yet little does he know things about to get much worse.
He is taken to an abandoned island occupied only by Dr. Moreau, a disgraced English scientist for his unethical treatment of live creatures. Prendick finds that the Doctor has been up to old habits, using the island's animals to create animal-human hybrids. Prendick must learn to survive among these creatures, while uncovering even more deadly mysteries about the doctor and the strange inhabitants of the island in this classic sci-fi tale.

Brilliant
Fantastic performance of a true classic of the genre. Found myself wanting to read(/listen) after watching Guardians of the Galaxy 3 haha.

Sci-fi horror that touches on many different and thought-provoking concepts
<i>The Island of Dr. Moreau</i> is a sci-fi horror that touches on many different and thought-provoking concepts. Some of these include: the importance of law and how fragile that rule can be; human nature outside of civilization; religion as a tool to control (without coming across as anti-religious), what is versus what appears to be; abuse of power; ethics around artificial creation of life.
The book archives such a lot in a short number of pages. Despite this, it's still very readable. A classic with parallels to <i>The Lord of the Flies</i> and <I>The Planet of the Apes</I>.

Wonderful
This is an excellent book and is very well narrated. H G Wells shows that he has an eye for relevant matters in 19th century Britain.

HG Well's classic and extremely devo tale is well read by some old Victorian-sounding buffer. Are we not men?! Eminently.

What a great reading of a great classic
This was such an interesting book.
Before listening to it, my only knowledge of the story comes from the film of the same name where Marlon Brando plays the part of Dr Moreau.
This reading is amazing and the book kept me enthralled from beginning to end.
Usually, I just listen when exercising, but I was so interested in the story that I kept listening to it for up to an hour over my exercise time.
The characters are verging on the scary, and animalistic (and I don't mean the animals), and you can feel yourself go through the same emotions as the narrator as he tells you his tale.
A great classic, that I would not hesitate to recommend.

A classic, well worth a listen!
This is a store I had always wanted to read but never got round to, and having seen it on audible took my opportunity. The narration is superb, there is a subdued vacancy in the voice where you can feel that the character has seen too much. You really get a sense of an upright Victorian gentleman, trying to keep his dignity in tact despite all the horrors he has faced (this may not have been intentional but suits the story well.) I really enjoyed it, a classic horror tale.
