About this listen

From the author of the Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley's The Italian Girl takes you from the back streets of Naples to the world's finest opera houses on a poignant, unforgettable journey of love, betrayal and self-discovery.

Read by Yolanda Kettle (Philippa Gregory's The Queen's Fool)

Nothing sings as sweetly as love, or burns quite like betrayal.

Rosanna Menici is just a girl when she meets Roberto Rossini – the man who will change her life. In the years that follow, their destinies will be bound together – both for their extraordinary talents as opera singers, and by their enduring but obsessive love.

Their love will ultimately affect the lives of all those closest to them. For, as Rosanna slowly discovers, their union is haunted – haunted by irreversible events of the past . . .

Praise for Lucinda Riley:

'A masterclass in beautiful writing' – The Sun

'Captivating . . . poignant yet uplifting' – Woman's Own

'Utterly enchanting . . . Prepared to be intrigued, moved to tears and ultimately uplifted' – Lancashire Evening Post

A version of this story has previously been published under the title Aria, under the name Lucinda Edmonds – now extensively rewritten as The Italian Girl.

Loved it!

I don't often leave reviews as it is all about opinion and I find myself put off by other's opinion.
Purchase the book if you enjoy Lucia's book, you can't go wrong.
And I have say Yolanda the narrator is a very talented lady indeed.
In my opinion the best narrator I have listened to over the past 4 years.
She adds something to her stories, she makes it MORE than just than a narration.

Gorgeous story about the Opera

I’ve come to this book after first reading the Seven Sisters series and then The Midnight Rose by Lucinda Riley. I rated those books all 5 stars overall because they were just perfection.
So I’ve had to rate this book a 4 simply because I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Lucinda’s other works. In saying that I did still enjoy it thoroughly and loved the Opera story line.

Spoilt by English narrator

Lovely story really enjoyed it
Should have been narrated by someone with an Italian accent
It was spoilt for me by the English women trying to talk with an Italian accent

Captivating

Brilliant story taking you on a journey into World of Opera and human relationships. The story revolves round the obsessive love of Rosanna and Roberto the two main characters and the impact they had on their family and friends. Overall a great listen.

Not her best one

I love this author but this book well it just plods along. The main character was weak and I found her frustrating. Expected a twist or some gumption from her but no. A bet of eye rolling by the time I got to the last few chapters.
