About this listen

When a group of international activists arrive on the Faroe Islands intent on stopping the traditional whale hunts, or grindadrap, tensions between islanders and protestors run high. And when a woman is found murdered only hours after a violent confrontation at a whale drive, the circumstances seem purposely designed to create even more animosity between the two sides.

For Faroese detective Hjalti Hentze and DI Jan Reyna, the case quickly exposes personal connections and conflicts of interest. But as they dig deeper, it becomes increasingly clear that the murder has other more sinister aspects to it. Knowing evidence is being hidden from them, and faced with deception on all sides, neither Reyna nor Hentze knows who to trust or how far some people might go to defend their beliefs.

This is a good second book and an interesting idea for a series of books.

There is a pause now between chapters and the change from first to third person and that has improved the flow and is less confusing.

The narration is excellent and the characterizations are perfect.

Highly recommend this series.

A good second book

Very enjoyable

I loved the first and the second is even better. Story and Characters well rounded and fast paced and narrator perfect. I simply couldn't stop listening and can't wait to dive into the 3rd and last book.

Brilliant

Superb 2nd book - I had to carry on with the 3rd one immediately before stopping to review this one! I've given this 5 stars again even though I didn't like the passages about the whale killing and processing. It's something I think is unnecessary in the 21st century for these people but the subject's an essential part of this book. The threads of the story are once again well woven, and the narrator continued to impress me. A comfort read, not an edge of the seat story, but captivating.

Superb second book in the trilogy

Another good believable story clearly laying the foundation for future reading. Builds well on first book.... more Nordic greys than noir well read

Great but animal lovers need to prepare themselves!!!

Unusual location for this murder mystery. Narration just right . Although story is quite slowly paced,, it has enough twists to keep it interesting. I listen before going to sleep, so I like the fact that it isn't too gory.

Faroe Islands mystery

This book brought all kinds of emotions to me.From the killing of the whales to the discovery of the girls body. it was obvious from the start that the two events were linked. As an animal lover I found it disturbing.

Very poignant and emotive

Beautifully written, beautifully read. An exceptional crime book. In places a devastating view of Man's cruelty......

A fine sequel......

Very good, even better than the first.
First class narration really enhanced the story.

Really enjoyed this book

I really like the way that Chris Ould writes, his characters are normal people without obsessions and behave as real people would behave.

This had a good story, I wasn't on the edge of my seat with suspense - but I enjoyed listening to the unfolding tale in a relaxed way.

It was very well read by Matt Addis.

Have I really got to wait a year for number three in the trilogy? Sigh!!

Excellent book, well read
