About this listen

Inspired by myth, fairy tale, and folklore, number one New York Times best-selling author Leigh Bardugo has crafted a deliciously atmospheric collection of short stories filled with betrayals, revenge, sacrifice, and love.

Enter the Grishaverse.... Love speaks in flowers. Truth requires thorns.

Travel to a world of dark bargains struck by moonlight, of haunted towns and hungry woods, of talking beasts and gingerbread golems, where a young mermaid's voice can summon deadly storms and where a river might do a lovestruck boy's bidding but only for a terrible price.

Perfect for new listeners and dedicated fans, the tales in The Language of Thorns will transport you to lands both familiar and strange - to a fully realized world of dangerous magic that millions have visited through the novels of the Grishaverse.

probably me but I struggled with this one compared to the other shadow and bone trilogy etc. the narrator is excellent as with the others too so not a performance issue but maybe the short stories weren't for me!

Amazing stories that expand the universe. Also Lauren is, as always, a welcome addition to any audiobook

Loved it

Great stories just wish there was something to notify you when a new story was starting, a few times I got a bit lost as I had not realised the last story has finished and a new story had started, a simple snippet of music would of helped, narrations was great and written fantastic as always with this author.

These stories bring new magic and deepen old enchantments of the Grishaverse like never before. Whether this is your fist Leigh Bardugo or you are a well seasoned fan, these riveting stories will grab your attention from the first sentence, and hold you tight in its web till long after the finall tale is ended. The descriptions lacquer and embellish the wild universe Bardugo has conjured for you, bringing colour and palpable magic to your mind. Old characters like the Darkling will make an appearance to haunt the stories, and brilliant new characters too - an enchanted nutcracker, a Grisha mermaid, and a vengeful gingerbread child, knocking on the door to an unsuspecting couple. So, if you dare, come forth, open the door, and breath the world of the Grisha...

I’ve not read any of Leigh Bardugo’s books before, this book I bought as part of a deal and so glad I did, I really enjoyed it! Loved all the tales and the narrator, I think, is perfect :)

If you are a Grishaverse fan this is sure to delight. That last story in particular. Lauren Fortgang could narrate a phonebook and I’d enjoy it but luckily she narrates Leigh Bardugo books so we have wonderful stories narrated by a voice I could listen to for days.

Lovers of the Grishaverse rejoice!

Immersive fairytales loosely based on the classics. Well written, dark and very good. (The Witch of Duva is in this collection if you are thinking of buying that one first like I did)

Grimm with a twist

These story stories were a nice accompaniment and ending to the series. They were a nice follow on, but also standalone batch. I liked them a lot.

Funny short story

I enjoyed this collection of short fables from Bardugo's amazingly well-crafted Grishaverse. They don't really add anything to the experience of reading Shadow and Bone or Six of Crows, but they were a fun way to pass the time on my commute.

Fun fairytales from the Grishaverse
