About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Return to the Scholomance—a school of magic unlike any you have ever encountered—in the stunning sequel to the Sunday Times best-selling A Deadly Education, the start of Naomi Novik's groundbreaking crossover series.
There are no teachers, no holidays; friendships are purely strategic, and the odds of survival are never equal. Once you're inside, there are only two ways out: you graduate, or you die.
El, Orion and the other students are faced with their final year—and the looming spectre of graduation. El is determined that her chosen group will survive, but it is a prospect that is looking harder by the day as the savagery of the school ramps up. Until El realises that sometimes winning the game means throwing out all the rules....
Wry, witty, endlessly inventive and mordantly funny—yet with a true depth and fierce justice at its heart—this enchanting novel reminds us that there are far more important things than mere survival.

Loved it
The second book in the scholomance series, this does not disappoint. The world is wonderful, the characters pleasantly sarcastic and the story is gripping.

So good!
Loved the worldbuilding detail, action, friendship and romance. I noticed one minor error in the narration (a line repeated) but Dadia's performance was generally great. Can't wait for the next installment!

5 outstanding stars!
I didn't think I could like this any more than book 1, I was so wrong! This book was everything I could have hoped for and more.
That ending was soul crushing, how can I possibly wait another year or more for book 3?!

I hesitate to recommend this book...
Not because it isn't thoroughly brilliant - it is! The narration is excellent, the plot gripping, the characters likeable and engaging...but the ending will have you screaming "NO!!!!!" Thankfully, I believe a third book in this series is to be released next year to put us all out of our misery!

Excellent narration for a brilliant book
The narrator is brilliant for these books, her voice just seems to work so well for El. And as it’s spoken from El’s perspective it works that she doesn’t try and do accents and voices.
Really enjoying the story so far and looking forward to finishing the series.

Fantastic work by author and narrator.
Naomi Novik's ability to transport her readers in time and space is frankly unrivalled. Her attention to detail in language and description is exquisite and here (again), she does not disappoint. Anisha Dadia is pitch-perfect as El, her narration matches Novik's writing and leaves the listener with an experience unmarred by mispronunciation or faulty emphasis, which unfortunately spoil so many audiobooks.
The author/narrator pairing is perfect for this series and after another cliffhanger ending, I eagerly await the final instalment!
One final note, please Audible, get your Quality Control sorted out, there is a repetition of a paragraph in Chapter 10, it spoils the flow of an otherwise perfect audiobook.

So exciting!
The last third of this book is pretty much unputdownable for me, can't stop til the end, it's so gripping! Really love this whole trilogy, book two has loads of lovely moments, some funny and some sad. By now I feel properly attached to the characters and can't wait to see what they do next. Narrator does a fantastic job, really sounds like the character and makes the story so immersive.
