When means girls grow up, they are still mean

This book was well plotted and I really enjoyed the narrator. I will certainly listen out for more of her audible work!

When Maria moves to a new area in the south away from New York she quickly joins the "pre school mums club". tithe club is made up of 3 wealthy women who have a high standing in their local community. Maria desperately wants to fit in and be liked, but, she has a secret to hide and an ulterior motive for wanting to fit in.

However Maria isn't the only one with a secret she wants to stay hidden but each of the women think theirs is the darkest so much so they can't see the truth, nor what is really important in their messy lives.

This story will keep you guessing, and although the characters are not particularly likeable that is a necessary part of the story I feel.

Great

Easy to listen to, liked the characters and the accents. Reminded me of desperate housewives.

Very good narration

Love the characters and the storyline is very interesting and different. I guessed who was behind the text but didn’t disappoint

Unpopular opinion

It seems like I'm in the minority most of the times I pick a 4 star book to listen to. Every main female character was unlikable... I could even say pathetic for some of them. I know what I'm supposed to feel. That their baggage or obsessions or psychology, excuse everything. Sorry, I haven't reached that level of empathy yet, especially when those people are parents. And I don't like people who torment others around them because they've had it rough. I've had it rough, rougher than most of them. You need to fight your demons every day, especially when you're a parent. I wouldn't forgive a parent who beats his/her children because he/she was beaten as a child. Just an example, not a spoiler. I didn't like any character and I didn't hate anyone either. No strong emotions were sparked by this book. A lot of eyerolls in exasperation though.

I don't see the originality in the story, something I've read in many reviews, I guessed quite early on who was behind the texts... And I don't agree that the narration was great, those southern accents she tried to imitate really annoyed me.

Strong-weak female characters (yes, both) with baggage and traumas that really explain why they're behaving like they are and make you love them? Because they struggle so much but never try to intentionally hurt anyone innocent around them? Before this one, I listened to "Two women". Beautiful. Has characters both to really love and to really, really hate. And the narrator is extraordinary. The huge gap between the two books may have affected this review too.
