Summary
Wishes aren't all they're cracked up to be...especially when you have to capture the Fairies who grant them to you.
Er...make that faeries...and not the normal, hiding-in-plain-sight magical kind.
When a misadventure cleaning out the attic leads Isaac to release a faerie trapped in a glass ball of light, he believes he's struck gold—in the form of wishes. All he has to do is mention the name that was engraved on the ball, and the indebted faerie would grant him any three wishes he wanted.
The best part of all was knowing that there was an entire chest of captured faeries waiting to be freed.... But when strange things start to happen around town, Isaac begins to wonder if the increasingly unfortunate events are his doing.
Only his mysterious neighbor, Yara, knows the truth about his lineage as a Light Keeper.
Can Yara's strength and wisdom guide Isaac into his new role?
Can Isaac make things right again?
Or will his dream-come-true turn into his worst nightmare?

Enjoyable MG listen
While The Light Keeper is a really cute adventure that would be great for middle grade, I had trouble with the pacing. Isaac finds a bunch of glass balls in the attic when he’s supposed to be cleaning, and one of them cracks, releasing a faerie that grants him three wishes. Great thing about it: there are many more glass balls with faeries. So Isaac releases a lot of them. But it is obvious that releasing a faerie is bad news. And it takes soooo long for the MC to get with the program.
The language is good, the characters have strengths and weaknesses, there is a lot of family (not found, but biological), and a few surprises along the way. It is definitely a good read for the MG crowd, and I wouldn’t hesitate to let my oldest kid read it (unfortunately, she doesn’t speak English yet!). The problem with Isaac being ignorant in the beginning is probably not a problem for an MG reader.
Since I listened to this as an audiobook, the narrator was a bit of a problem for me. I’m not sure how one would get around it, but it was weird to have a grown man narrating the thoughts of pretty young boy.

Great Book, Great Narration, Great Listen!
Our family (children 5 and 8) listened to the Light Keeper this summer in the car on long road trips. The story kept us wanting another chapter with great characters, an exciting- but age appropriate story line and an imaginative theme. The whole family ended up hooked and never missed a chapter right to the last battle!
We will be looking for new titles by Christina Wallace and stories narrated by E M Wylde

I would give more stars if I could
This is an amazing story line with a great narrator! Such a unique storyline and just when I thought I know what would happen a new element was added.

Excellent story, creative and gripping narration. 10/10
The narration of this story is enchanting and creative, you get to hear the range of emotions from all characters, the sassiness from Sarah the little sister, the sarcasm and annoyance from Yara, the menacing threats from Christo, the naivety and bravery from Isaac, and the Mischief from all the fairies.
It's well paced, filled with fun and adventure, and at the end of each chapter it leaves you wanting more and to know what happens next.
This is a fantastic Audiobook for this fun filled YA adventure story of fairies, mischief and magic.
Highly recommend for all ages to enjoy!
